국문 초록

본 연구는 많이 알려지지 않은 독립운동가 윤희순(1860-1935)의 일생동안 전개했던 구국운동에 대해 살펴보고 구국운동의 성격과 그 의미에 대해 알아보고자 한다. 첫째, 윤희순의 구국운동은 일시적이거나 시대의 변화에 따른 운동이 아닌 자신의 확고한 자기사상을 전제로 한 표현이자 결과물적 성격을 띠고 있다. 둘째, 국내의 의병활동과 국외의 구국운동은 한국근대민족주의 운동의 일환으로서 조국애와 민족애의 실천을 추구하였다. 셋째, 소외되어 있던 여성의 구국의지를 발현시켜 여성과 독립운동과의 관계성과 조국의지를 발휘했다. 넷째, 조국독립을 향한 자주적·주체적인 민족의지로 자주독립운동을 실천하였다. 본 연구를 통해서 윤희순의 구국운동에 대한 의미를 부각시키고 향후 미발굴된 독립운동가에 대한 연구의 필요성을 제기한다.

영문 초록

This study aims at examining the activities of Yoon Hee-soon(1860-1935), who was a lesser known independence activist, to save the country, as well as the character and meaning of her activities to save her country in distress. Yoon Hee-soon was the first female leader of the Righteous Armies of the latter Greater Korean Empire, and was a freedom fighter who spent her entire life in the Righteous Armies and taking part in the independence movement. The activities of Yoon Hee-soon to save the nation pursues national independence based on a firm outlook and belief of the nation. First, Yoon Hee-soon's activities were not temporary or activities based on the change of times, but was the expression based on her strong self-beliefs and is a resultant thereof. Second, her domestic activities as a member of the Righteous Army and her activities to save her country from abroad was part of the modern Korean nationalism movement and pursued the exercising of love for country and nation. Third, by manifesting the will to save the country of women, who have thus far been alienated, she revealed the relationship between women and the independence movement, as well as her purport for her country. Fourth, she practiced her independent and subjective purport for her country's independence through voluntary independence movements. This study highlights the meaning of Yoon Hee-soon's activities to save the country, and presents the need for future studies on undiscovered independence activists.
