국문 초록

본 연구는 한국민족사상에 대한 개념과 성격에 대해서 살펴보고 한국민족사상이 주는 현대적 의미를 살펴보고자 하였다. 한국민족사상은 우리 민족의 정신적 토대이자 미래를 이끌어주는 정신적 기반이라는 점에서 큰 의미를 가지며 연구자는 연구의 개념적 틀을 한민족이라는 특수성과 우리 민족이 지닌 역사성, 한국 민족의 특수한 민족성의 세 가지 틀에 근거하여 접근하고 있다. 이런 시각 하에 한국민족사상의 성격을 크게 네 가지로 구분하였는데, 첫째, 홍익인간의 윤리정신을 반영하고 있고 둘째, 한국민족만의 특성을 반영한 한(韓)의 민본주의적 성격을 띠고 있으며 셋째, 외래사상에 대해 재창조의 조화정신으로 민족적 사상으로 발전시켜 나가고 있으며 넷째, 민중에 기반한 대동주의적 성격을 띠고 있다는 점이다. 이런 한국민족사상은 민족사 발전의 정신적 원동력이자 현재 우리 민족이 당면하고 있는 과거청산문제해결의 중심적 역할로서, 그리고 한국민족주의의 미완성이자 당면과제인 민족통일지향의 정신적 구심점으로 그 현대적 의의를 가지고 있다.

영문 초록

This study aims at examining the concept and character of Korean nationalism, and to investigate the modern meaning provided by Korean nationalism. Korean nationalism is significant in the fact that it is the nation's psychological foundation and psychological basis to lead the future. I have approached the conceptual frame of the study from three approaches: 1) uniqueness of the Korean people, history of our nation, and the unique nationalism of the Korean nation. From such perspective, the character of Korean nationalism was categorized into four main groups. The first reflected the ethical spirit of humanitarianism, the second displayed a Korean democratic character reflecting the unique features of the Korean race, the third showed that for foreign ideas, the spirit of harmony based on recreation was developed into a national idea, and fourthly, it displays a Daedong (great virtue) ideal based on the people. This kind of Korean nationalism was the psychological driving force for the development of the national history, and plays a pivotal role for resolving the issues of the past, of which our nation confronts. In addition, it is the psychological center point of the incompleteness of Korean nationalism and for the current issue of national unification, in which modern significance is given.
