국문 초록

연구자는 이 글에서 한국교육사상의 기반으로서 원시종교의 가치를 이야기하고자 두 가지 문제를 제기하였다. 하나는 원시종교에 대하여 한국교육사상 연구자들이 어떻게 이해했는가 하는 점이다. 대체로 1940년대부터 1960년대까지의 연구자들은 원시종교를 미개한 사상 혹은 미신으로 이해하는 경향이 있었다. 이러한 견해는 합리주의나 과학주의의 영향을 받은 것이며, 원시종교의 특성을 지적인 측면으로 이해한 점이 있다. 그러나 원시종교의 사고방식이나 원시인의 심성은 구술문명의 핵심으로서 문자문명 시대에 사는 현대인에게는 찾아볼 수 없는 소중한 것이고, 미래사회의 교육사상으로서의 가치도 충분하다. 연구자가 제기한 또 하나의 문제는 원시종교의 심성 문제를 한국의 전통 마음철학인 심학(心學)의 전통 속에 포함시켜야 한다는 것이다. 이미 원시인의 심성에 대해서는 칼 융을 비롯하여 많은 서구 학자들이 연구를 해왔으며, 한국의 교육사상 연구자들도 1970년대부터 한국인의 심성의 원형에 대해 관심을 집중하고 있다. 결론적으로 원시종교에 나타난 원시인의 마음은 현대교육사상으로 재조명할 가치가 있으며, 이를 위해 교육학자들은 원시인의 구술문화가 원시인의 마음을 어떻게 형성하는지 그 기제에 대해서 관심을 가져야 한다. 이 글에서는 그 기제로서 신화가 가진 집단성, 구술성, 서사성, 제의성 등에 주목해야 함을 이야기했다.

영문 초록

In this study, I raised two questions about the value of primitive religion as the basis of the Korean educational idea. One is how Korean scholars understand primitive religion in educational ideas. In general, researchers from the 1940s to the 1960s tended to understand primitive religions as uncivilized ideas or superstitions. This view was influenced by rationalism or scientism, and they understood the characteristics of primitive religion in an overly intellectual way. However, the primitive religious mind and the mentality of primitive man are valuable to modern people living in the era of written civilization as the core of oral civilization and valuable as educational ideas in the future society. Another problem I raised is the issue of including the mentality of primitive religions in the tradition of Simhak (心學, Korean philosophy of mind), a characteristic of traditional Korean thoughts. Many Western scholars, including C. Jung, have already studied the mentality of primitive man, and Korean scholars have also paid attention to the archetype of Korean mentality since the 1970s. In conclusion, the minds of primitive man in primitive religions are worth re-examining as modern educational ideas. For this purpose, scholars should consider how primitive oral culture shapes primitive mentality. In this article, I pointed out that attention should be paid to the collectivity, orality, narrative, and ritual of the myth.
