국문 초록

본 논문은 이눌서(W. D. Reynolds)의 성경관을 알아보는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이눌서는 미국 남장로교 출신의 선교사로서 개혁주의 신학의 모든 근본적인 원리에 충실했다. 그는 성경을 정확 무오한 하나님의 말씀으로 확신하며, 성경의 권위를 중요하게 여기는 보수적인 입장의 신학을 소유했다. 그는 성경이 하나님의 영감으로 기록되었고 ‘언사적 충족적’(Verbal Satisfaction) 영감이라고 표현했다. 그가 주장하는 성경의 언사적 충족적 영감은 성령의 간섭이 그 내용에 따라 기록자에게 각기 다르게 작용했으나 성경의 의도대로 성경이 무실, 무오, 무결하게 기록되었다는 것이다. 고등비평 학자들은 성경의 이적(異蹟)을 부인한다. 그러므로 이눌서는 성경비평을 허용하는 근대 신학 주의는 배도하는 일이라고 하였다. 또한 그는 외경을 인정하지 않고 오직 정경만을 인정하였다. 그 이유는 외경이 구약성경의 히브리어 원문에 없고, 예수와 사도들이 인용하지 않았으며, 교부들이 성경 목록을 만들 때도 외경을 포함하지 않았고, 하나님의 진리에 위배되는 글이 많기 때문이다. 이눌서는 영어 성경을 번역하여 한글 성경으로 만들고, 성경 사전과 신학교재 등을 번역하였다, 그리고 1918년부터 1937년까지 「신학지남」의 편집인을 담당함으로써 초기 한국 장로교 신학을 형성하는 데 큰 역할을 감당했다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the viewpoint of the Bible of W. D. Reynolds. Reynolds was as a missionary from the American Southern Presbyterian Church and faithful to all the fundamental principles of Reformed theology. He was sure that the Bible is the accurate and infallible word of God, and he possessed theology of a conservative viewpoint that regarded the authority of the Bible as important. He asserted the Bible was written by God's inspiration, but also he call it ‘verbal satisfaction’ inspiration. He asserted that the ‘verbal satisfaction inspiration’ of the Bible is the intervention of the Holy Spirit worked differently for the recorder according to the contents, but he asserted that the Bible had be recorded it non-mistakes, no false, and defectless as the Bible intended. The scholar of higher criticism deny the miracle of the Bible. Therefore Reynolds asserted the modern theology that allows biblical criticism is betraying Jesus Christ. In addition he did not recognize the Apocrypha but also recognize the Canon. The reason is that Apocrypha is not in the Hebrew text of the Old Testament. Furthermore Jesus and the apostles did not quote it. Moreover when church fathers made a Bible list, they did not include the Apocrypha. What is more there are many contents that violate God’s words in the Apocrypha. Reynolds had translated the English Bible into the Korean Bible, and translated the Bible dictionary and theological materials and so forth with a conservative viewpoint of Bible. He had also played a major role in forming the early Korean Presbyterian theology along with S. A. Moffett and C. A. Clark by being the editor of "Theology Periodicals" from 1918 to 1937.
