노인의 경제 활동에 영향을 미치는 소득 요인 탐색

국문 초록

노인과 관련하여 발생하고 있는 다양한 사회 문제들 중에서도 노인 빈곤 문제가 심각해지고 있다. 노인들은 정규 경제 활동에 참여하기 어려운 독특성이 있음에도 불구하고 근로 소득 외에 별다른 소득이 없다면 노인이더라도 경제 활동에 참여해야 한다. 소득은 삶을 영위하는 데 있어 매우 중요한 시장 경제 사회에서의 가장 기본적인 생계 수단이기 때문이다. 본 연구는 노인들의 다양한 소득원에 관심을 가지고 근로 소득과 연금 소득, 자산 소득, 이전 소득 등의 근로 외 소득 요인들이 노인들의 경제 활동 참여에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 탐색하였다. 특히 여성 노인의 빈곤이 심각하다는 문제의식을 바탕으로 성별에 따라 노인의 경제 활동에 영향을 미치는 소득 요인이 어떻게 다른지를 확인해 보고자 하였다. 실증 분석 결과 근로 소득, 부동산 자산 소득, 금융 자산 소득, 공적 이전 소득 등이 노인의 경제 활동 참여에 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치고, 성별에 따라 노인의 경제 활동 참여에 영향을 미치는 요인이 다름을 확인하였다. 이러한 결과는 노인들의 경제 활동 참여에 있어 여전히 근로 소득이 가장 주요한 요인임을 의미하며, 노인들이 삶을 영위하는 데 있어 사회 보장 급여로서 공적 이전 소득의 중요성을 강조하는 것이라 하겠다.

영문 초록

Although it is difficult for older people to participate in regular economic activities, income is important to sustain a life. If there is no other income other than earned income, even the elderly have no choice but to participate in economic activities in order to survive. This study explores how earned income determinant and other income excluding earned income determinant such as pension income, asset income, and transfer income affect the elderly's participation in economic activities with interest in the various income sources of the elderly. In particular, based on the awareness of the serious problem of poverty among the elderly women, we examined how the income factors affecting the economic activities of the elderly differ according to gender. It was verified that earned income, property income, financial income, and public transfer income have a statistically significant effect on the participation of the elderly in economic activities. It was also confirmed that these factors have different effects on the economic activity participation of the elderly according to gender. These results show that earned income is still the most important for older people's participation in economic activities, and public transfer income as a social security benefit is important for older people's lives.
