성현에 대한 퇴계의 교육적 이해

국문 초록

연구목적: 본 연구는 퇴계가 교육의 목표로서 성현을 어떻게 이해하고 있는지를 밝히는 것에 목적이있다. 그리고 그 교육철학적 의미를 해석함으로써, 우리의 역사에서 교육의 목표로서 성인됨을 제시했던 것이 오늘날 우리의 교육에 어떠한 통찰을 제공하는지 살펴보고자 하였다. 연구방법: 퇴계의 문헌을 중심 자료로 활용하여, 교육의 목표로서 성현이란 무엇인지 그리고 그것이교육 실천의 장에서 교육적으로 어떻게 기능하는지를 해석하였다. 연구결과: 먼저, 성현은 교육에 인간됨이라는 존재론적 가치가 포함되도록 하는 핵심적인 기제이다. 성현은 인식론적 교육목표를 인간됨이라는 존재론적 맥락으로 표상화하는데, 성현이 의미하는 인간됨이란 모든 관계 안에서 선한 본성의 실현을 뜻한다. 다음으로, 교육 실천의 장에서 성현을 공경하는 것은 학습자가 교육목표를 내면화하도록 한다. 학습자가 제향을 통해 성현을 공경함으로써 교육의 시작인 입지가 이루어지며, 입지를 통해 학습자는 본성의 실현이라는 가치를 믿음으로 내면화하게 된다. 학술적 기여: 본 연구는 교육목표로서 성현에 내포된 자기주도학습의 맥락을 규명할 뿐만 아니라 존재론적 차원에서 이루어지는 교육의 사례로서 우리의 교육에 중요한 시사점을 제공한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to reveal how Toegye understands sage - as the ideal objective of educated beings. Looking into its educational philosophical meaning, this study examined the insights that presenting the sages as the objective of education in our history provides for our education today. To this end, this study uses Toegye s literature as the primary data to interpret what aspects of sages are characterized as an educational goal and how they function educationally in the field of education. First, sages are a key mechanism to ensure that the ontological value of human beings is included in education. Sages represent the educational goal presented epistemologically in the ontological context of being human. The being human in the meaning of the sages stands for the embodiment of the good nature in all relationships. Next, honoring sages in the field of educational practice allows learners to internalize their educational goals. By honoring sages through memorial rites, learners establish their will, which is the beginning of education. Through setting up a will, the learner internalizes the value of embodiment of nature through faith. In conclusion, the presentation of sages as the objective of educated beings not only enables learners self-directed learning in practice, but also provides important implications for our education in that it enables education to take place in an ontological dimension.
