心性의 문학적 형상화와 그 기록에 대한 연구

국문 초록

‘신령스럽고 밝은 집’이라는 뜻의 ‘神明舍’는 인간의 심성을 건축물에 비유한 명칭으로, 마음이 머무는 집을 의미한다. 본 논문에서는 신명사를 가상적인 공간으로 설정하여 이 공간의 유래와 구조, 마음을 잃는 과정과 되찾는 과정에 대한 경위 등을 기록한 記文인 「神明舍記」에 주목하여 연구를 진행해 보았다. 신명사를 소재로 하는 기문은 주로 16세기 후반에서 17세기 중반까지 활동한 문인들에 의해서 주로 지어졌는데, 본 논문에서 대상으로 하는 작품은 바로 尹光啓, 張維, 姜大遂, 鄭弘溟, 河溍에 의해 지어진 「神明舍記」이다. 「신명사기」에서는 인간의 마음이 머무는 곳을 공간적으로 형상화하여 추상적인 개념을 가시적인 것으로 치환하고, 인간의 심성을 여러 가지로 의인화하여 표현하였다. 또한 올바른 마음을 잃어버렸다가 되찾는 과정을 서사적으로 기술함으로써 상실된 마음을 회복하고 심성 수양으로 나아가려는 목표에 도달하는 방도를 효과적으로 형상화하였다. 그리고 최종적으로, 마음을 성찰하고 수양하여 신령스럽고 밝은 마음을 상실하지 않는 방법에 대한 교훈적 가르침을 여러 가지 문학적 수사로 참신하고 생동감 있게 전달하였다. 본 논문에서 연구 대상으로 한 작품들은 곧 마음의 근원을 궁구하고 올바른 본성의 이상적 실현을 위한 방안에 대해 고심한 흔적의 소산물임과 동시에 심성론과 관련된 경서의 전고를 적절히 수용하여 교훈적 메시지를 담으면서도 다소 희작적인 창작 기법이 교차하는 문예지향적 작품이라고 그 의미를 평가해 볼 수 있겠다.

영문 초록

The ‘Sinmyeongsa(神明舍)’, meaning ‘A spiritual and bright house’, is a name that likens the mind of human to a building and it means the house where the heart is. In this paper, I proceeded with the study by paying attention to the 「Sinmyeongsagi(神明舍記)」 that recorded the origin and the structure of this space, the process of losing the mind and regaining it, by setting the Sinmyeongsa as a imaginary space. The works based on the Sinmyeongsa were mainly written by literati who were active from the late 16th century to the mid 17th century. The works in this paper are 「Sinmyeongsagi」 that were written by Yoon Gwang-gye(尹光啓), Jang-Yu(張 維), Kang Dae-su(姜大遂), Jeong Hong-myeong(鄭弘溟) and Ha-Jin(河溍). In 「Sinmyeongsagi」, the place where the human mind stays was spatially shaped, the abstract concept was replaced by visible, and the human mind was expressed in various personification. Also, by epically describing the process of losing the right mind and regaining it, it effectively embodied the way to reach the goal of recovering the lost mind and leading to the mind cultivation mind. And finally, this works refreshingly and animatedly conveyed the instructive teachings on how to introspect and cultivate the mind and not lose the spiritual and bright mind through of various literary rhetoric. The works which were studied in this paper could be evaluated as not only the product of a trail that investigated thoroughly the origin of the mind and about the ideal realization of the right nature, but also the literature-oriented works somewhat burlesque creative techniques were crossed while appropriately accepting authentic precedents of the Confucian classics associated with the theory of mind and containing instructional messages.
