국문 초록

초등 수학교육에서 어림 능력은 매우 중요함에도 불구하고 이에 대한 연구는 상대적으로 부족한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구는 초등학교 6학년 학생들을 대상으로 수와 연산 영역을 중심으로 어림 능력의 실태를 조사하였다. 구체적으로 수에 대한 기본적인 지식과 연산 기능에 비해 학생들의 어림 능력은 어떠한지, 어림수와 어림셈의 전반적인 수행 능력은 어떠한지를 살펴보았다. 또한 어림의 구성요소별 특징을 분석하여 어림의 개념적 요소를 얼마만큼 이해하고 있는지, 기능적 요소인 어림 전략 유형을 어떻게 활용하는지 등을 면밀하게 분석하였다. 이를 토대로 어림 능력 개발에 관한 시사점을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

Although students estimation capability in elementary schools is important, relatively few studies on estimation have been investigated. This study explored what were 6th grade students estimation capability focused on the content area of number and operation. This study first compared students estimation ability to their basic knowledge and skills on number and operation. This study also looked into students estimation capability in terms of estimation numbers and computational estimation. This study then illustrated in detail both students understanding of the conceptual elements of estimation and that of the functional elements of estimation (mainly various estimation strategy types). This paper includes several suggestions for nurturing students estimation competence.
