국문 초록

본 연구는 경제상황에 따라 글로벌 자동차 부품과 완성차 산업의 운전자본관리가 수익성에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 연구 변수에는 운전자본관리의 주요 평가지표인 현금전환주기와 그 요소(재고보유일수, 매출채권회수일수, 매입채무변제일수), 수익성 지표인 총자산순수익률, 경제상황을 반영하는 지표인 GDP(조절변수)를 사용하였다. 패널데이터 분석에는 Data Stream의 데이터베이스에 있는 947개의 글로벌 자동차 기업의 2000~2019년(20년간 80분기) 재무데이터를 이용하였다. 선행연구들에서 미흡했던 자동차 세부 산업과 경제상황에 따른 효과를 분석한 결과, 유의한 차이를 나타내는 핵심지표를 발견하였고, 자동차 부품과 완성차 기업의 운전자본관리 전략에 관한 통찰력을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study investigates the effects of working capital management (WCM) of firms on profitability in the global auto parts and vehicle manufacturing industries in changing economies. As key measures for WCM, we use the cash conversion cycle and its elements (i.e., days of inventory outstanding, days of accounts receivable outstanding, and days of accounts payable outstanding), return on assets as profitability measure, and GDP as moderating variable, for measuring economic conditions. We conduct the panel data analysis, using the financial data of 947 global automotive companies for the period 2000-2019 (80 quarters in 20 years) from the Data Stream database. Unlike extant studies, we reveal significant measures by analyzing the effects of sub-sectors in the automotive industry and economic conditions, and provide strategic insights on WCM for auto parts and vehicle manufacturers.
