<죽은 여자와 동침하기> 설화에 나타난 섹슈얼리티와 덕(德)의 상관성

국문 초록

이 연구는 죽은 여성과 동침하는 남성의 이야기인 〈죽은 여자와 동침하기〉 설화에서 섹슈얼리티가 작동하는 방식을 살피고자 시도되었다. 이를 위해 죽은 여성과 살아있는 남성이 성적 욕망을 추구하는 행위가 성별에 따라 서사 내에서 어떻게 의미화되고 있는지 살펴보고, 성별에 따라 섹슈얼리티가 사회적으로 수용, 재편되는 양상을 분석하였다. 〈죽은 여자와 동침하기〉 설화에서 여성의 몸은 유혹적인 신체로, 남성의 성욕과 동침 행위는 유혹에 대한 반응으로 전제되었다. 또, 구비설화에서의 시간(屍姦)은 여성이 원귀가 되는 것을 막아준 남성의 시혜적 행위로 수용되어 처녀와 그 부모의 조력으로 남성의 모든 결핍이 해소되는 보은담의 성격을 보여주었다. 한편 문헌설화의 남성 인물은 여성과의 결연 후 여성을 포함한 집안사람들이 모두 죽었으나 시신이 수습되지 못한 상황을 확인하고 그들의 장례와 제사를 지내줌으로써 인격적으로 성숙할 수 있었고 그 후 사회적으로 영달하였는데, 이는 남성의 동침행위와 장례 수행을 일종의 적덕(積德)으로 이해한 서사적 결말이다. 이렇듯 〈죽은 여자와 동침하기〉 유형의 설화는 삶과 죽음이라는 존재방식에 따라 남녀 인물이 성적 결합을 통해 교류하고 서로 영향을 주고받는 양상을 보여준다. 이야기는 인간의 생래적 욕망으로서의 섹슈얼리티를 인정하면서도 불평등한 남성중심적 성 인식을 보여주었다.

영문 초록

This study examined the way sexuality of women and men worked in , a story of a man who sleeps with a deceased woman. With an emphasis on gender, this study examined how the act of pursuing sexual desire by living men with dead women is being semanticized in narratives, and analyzed the aspect of social acceptance and reorganization of sexuality. In the story of , the corpse of a woman is a seductive body, and the sexual desire and sleep pattern of a man are supposed to be a response to temptation. In addition, the time in oral narratives was accepted as a kind act of a man who prevented a woman from becoming a spirit. It showed the character of a story of grace, which relieves all the deficiencies of men with the help of a virgin and her parents. On the other hand, male characters in the were able to achieve personal maturity by confirming the situation that all the family members, including the women, died after the relationship with women. Although the body was not recovered, they became socially mature by conducting the funeral rites and offerings. The tales of reveal the aspects of men and women interacting and influencing each other through sexual unions, through the existence of life and death. The story acknowledged sexuality as an innate human desire but highlighted the inequality of androcentrism.
