기업의 여성 과학기술인력 형성과정에 관한 연구

국문 초록

최근 우리나라의 인구구조의 변화와 4차 산업혁명에 대한 사회적 관심으로 인해 노동시장에서 과학기술인력의 필요성이 확대되고 있다. 특히 4차 산업혁명의 특성상 다양한분야에서 여성 과학기술인력이 필요한 상황이다. 그렇지만 기업에서 여성 과학기술인력의활용은 낮은 편이다. 본 연구는 과학기술인력 활용의 성별 차이의 원인을 이해하기 위하여, 여성의 이공계관련 학과 진학과 고등학교에서 이과 계열을 선택하는 요인에 대해 분석하였다. 이를 위해 한국직업능력개발원에서 실시한 한국교육고용패널(KEEP) 데이터에서 학생 개인의 특성, 부모 및 가정환경, 학교환경 변수 등을 활용하였다. 실증 분석에 따르면 이공계열을 선택한 여성은 남성보다 삶에 대한 가치관과 성역할고정관념의 영향을 받는 것으로 보인다. 이런 점은 기업이 여성 과학기술인력을 활용하기위해서는 여성 직원 간의 친화성을 높이고 기업 내 역할모델을 제시하는 인사전략을 고려해야 함을 의미한다.

영문 초록

Recently the demand for human resource in the field of science and engineering rapidly has increased because of the demographic change and the social interest of the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Korea, Especially, the core element of the Fourth Industrial Revolution such as artificial intelligence requires more women to engage in the STEM related fields. However, until now the proportion of women in the STEM fields in the firms still is very low. This study characterizes the main contributor to the STEM gender gap in college and high school using the Korea Education and Employment Panel Survey(KEEP). To figure out the systematic gender difference in their choice of college majors and tracks during high school, this study has considered students’ characteristics, parents and home background, and school environment. According to the empirical results, female students are more subject to their personality and more influenced by their parents and the role of gender stereotype. This results suggest that firms have to consider more female-friendly human resource strategy and provide more female role models to their female workers to enhance their performance.
