국문 초록

본 연구는 일제강점기 북간도 지역에서 일어났던 기독교학교운동의 특징을 고찰하여 오늘날 학교교육에 시사점을 얻는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 기독교학교들의 교육목표, 교육활동, 운영실태 등을 살펴보고, 이로부터 이 학교들이 어떻게 주민들의 지지를 얻어 양적인 면에서나 영향력의 면에서 발전할 수 있었는지를 살펴보았다. 이와 함께 기독교학교에서 민족교육과 신앙교육의 관계가 어떻게 이해되고 조화롭게 실천되었는지 하는 질문도 탐구하였다. 이런 문제들을 논의하면서 나타난 기독교학교운동의 특징들을 근거로 그것이 갖는 교육적 의의와 시사점들을 찾아보았다. 북간도의 기독교학교들은 신앙교육을 토대로 당시 시대적 사명이라 할 수 있었던 근대지향성과 민족지향성을 적극적으로 수용하였고, 그동안 소외되었던 많은 사람들에게 근대교육의 기회를 주었다. 기독교학교의 지도자들이 연합활동을 주도하는 등 사회의 지도자로서 민족을 위해 헌신하는 모습은 기독교학교가 사회적 지지를 얻게 되는 요인으로 작용했다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to obtain implications for today s school by examining the characteristics of the Christian school movement that took place in the Bukgando region during the Japanese colonial period. To this end, we looked at how schools based on the Christian faith were able to develop both in terms of quantity and influence, and what characteristics of Christian schools gained support from local residents. In addition, a more fundamental question was explored on how the relationship between national education and faith education was understood and practiced in the Christian schools. While discussing these issues, the educational significance and implications of the Christian school movement were found based on the characteristics of the Christian school movement. Christian schools in Bukgando actively embraced the modern orientation and national orientation, which were the missions of the times. The leaders of Christian schools led the joint activities between schools, and they lived a life of dedication to the nation as leaders of society, and these points became a factor in gaining support from society.
