In the corporate-liberal society, a central puzzle is how the corporate culture operates. How has the corporate-liberal society constructed to its present form? For whose benefit and under whose control has it evolved? What are alternative forms of society? This paper seeks to answer these questions by both illustrating how corporate-liberal society has evolved and opening up a “social space” for thinking and acting toward some other form of democratic society. But this inquiry does not proclaim a particular society as “the only possible democratic society” with already determined uni-directional ends, in altering hegemonic control of corporate-liberal society. The primary purpose is to increase the possibilities for thinking and acting space in our society other than those proposed by the corporate-liberal operations. As an alternative, this paper calls for increased self-reflective / critical views on corporate-liberal society and to open a new consciousness of what must be done and how to do it. The central tenet of the corporate-liberal society thesis is that the invisible hand associated with the logic of laissez-faire is now acting like a visible hand, and that the role of the invisible hand or corporate capital is now accepted as a socially responsible entity without a system of checks and balances to monitor its ever-increasing quasi-autonomous power.
