훈민정음체 서예의 난수 서법 모델

국문 초록

최고 경지의 예술가가 오랜 기간 각고의 수련과 깊은 사려 끝에 터득한 다양한 지식, 경험과 기술이 그의 내면에 쌓여져, 작품의 창조과정에서 그만의 독특한 방법으로 발현된다고 한다. 그의 작품에는 무한한 변화가 보이지만, 자연스러운 균형이 느껴진다. 최고 경지의 예술가는 의식 중의 무의식으로, 무질서 속의 질서를 작품에 구현하는 것이다. 이 논문은 定性的 예술 분야인 서예에서의 抽象的 특징인 “의식 중의 무의식, 무질서 속의 질서”를 定量的 수학 분야에서의 數理的 모델로 접근하려는 시도이다. 이 모델은 훈민정음체 서예에서 초성, 중성 및 종성 각각의 형태, 크기, 위치, 농도, 굵기, 기울기 등 미학 요소들의 다양한 표현들로 이루어지는 방대한 조합들을 포괄하는 體系와, 이중에서 어떤 한 조합을 할당된 확률로 선택하는 亂數로 이루어진다. 한글의 조형적 특성과 훈민정음체의 예술적 특성을 고려하여 컴퓨터 프로그램 작성이 가능한 형태로 체계가 구축된다. 서예가는 본인의 의지를 개입시키지 않고 체계에 따라 할당된 확률로 난수가 구성하는 미학 요소들의 조합을 화선지에 실현한다. 난수의 숫자들은 무질서한 배열로 보이지만 수치로 설명되는 통계적 질서를 갖고 있어, 이러한 무질서 속의 질서를 갖는 난수의 성질이 작품에 반영될 것이다. 이 모델을 용비어천가 일부에 적용하여, 그 적합성, 활용 방안 및 발전 방향을 검토한다. 이 모델은 고려하는 요소의 종류와 표현, 그리고 난수에 할당하는 확률 값에 따라서 다양한 면모를 가질 수 있다. 따라서 서예가마다 자신만의 모델을 개발하고 발전시킬 수 있다. 이 시도는 “인공지능 서예”의 작은 기초가 될 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

It is said that the various knowledge, experiences, and skills acquired over a long period of hard training and deep thinking by a master of art are accumulated in his inner mind, and then are emerged in his own unique way in his creation process. There will be infinite variety in his work, but a feeling of natural balance. In the state of unconsciousness within consciousness, he embodies the order within the disorder of his work. This paper attempts an approach to formulate the abstract concept “unconsciousness in consciousness, order in disorder” in the qualitative art of calligraphy into a probabilistic model in the quantitative science of mathematics. This model consists of a hierarchy that encompasses vast combinations of various expressions of aesthetic elements, such as the shape, size, position, density, thickness, and inclination of each of the first, medial, and final strokes in Hangeul s Hunminjeongche and random numbers that select one among the combinations according to the probabilities assigned. Considering the formative characteristics of Hangeul and the artistic features of Hunminjeongche, a hierarchy is established in a form that allows computer programming. Without the will of his own, the calligrapher realizes a combination of aesthetic elements on paper, as the random numbers dictate according to the probabilities assigned by the model. The random numbers appear to be a disorderly arrangement, but they have some statistical orders which are numerically explainable, so this nature of random numbers, order in disorder, will be reflected in the work. We will review the validity, applicability, and further development of the model by applying it to a part of “Yongbieocheonga.” Since the model can be diverse, they will have different aspects depending on the factors chosen, their variability considered and the probabilities assigned to random numbers. Accordingly, each calligrapher can have his or her own model and improve it. This attempt is expected to serve as a small foundation for artificial intelligence calligraphy.
