신문을 활용한 수학 학습 방안에 대한 연구

국문 초록

수학과 현실 생활과의 괴리의 문제, 수학의 유용성과 가치 이해의 부족, 수학적 모델링 능력의 부족 등이 현재 우리 수학 교육이 안고 있는 문제점 중 주요한 부분들이다. 이러한 수학교육의 문제점들을 해결하기 위하여, 신문활용교육(NIE)은 하나의 대안이 충분히 될 수 있다. 수학 학습에서 신문을 적절하게 활용한다면, 신문 내용은 수학 내용 측면과 방법을 실질적으로 활용하는 충분한 기회가 되고, 수학적 사고의 접근으로 인한 문제 제기 및 그 해결은 실질적인 수학적 힘을 함양하게 된다. 따라서 NIE의 이론적 배경, NIE를 활용한 학습 내용에 대한 접근, 수학적 사고 함양을 위한 구체적 활동이 포함된 자료개발을 구체적으로 논하여, 이로 말미암아 초등수학교육 발전에 기여 하고자 하는 것이 논문의 목적이다.

영문 초록

The major problems of current mathematics education are the gap between mathematics learning and reality, the lack of understanding on the utility and the value of mathematics, and the difficulties in applying mathematical modeling to real-world issues. In order to solve these problems, NIE(Newspapers in Education) could be a new alternative. When the students know how to make proper use of newspapers in learning mathematics, it would not only provide them with ample opportunity to practice mathematics contents in the actual context, but also enhance their mathematical abilities of problem-posing and problem-solving through mathematical reasoning. The purpose of this study is to contribute to the advancement of elementary mathematics education by discussing the theoretical background of NIE, the NIE approach to mathematics learning, and the development of course materials including specific activities to improve students’ mathematical thinking abilities.
