루쉰 단편소설 ｢축복｣ 속 고통의 언어화에 대한 고찰

국문 초록

본고는 루쉰(魯迅) 단편소설 ｢축복(祝福)｣ 속 인물인 샹린 댁(祥林搜)을 통해, 사랑하는 대상을 잃고 남겨진 자의 고통이 언어화되는 과정을 고찰하고자 한다. 소설에서 샹린 댁은 아이를 잃은 이야기를 반복해서 풀어놓지만, 청자가 모두 떠난 후 말하기라는 해소의 통로가 차단되면서 고통 안으로 함몰되는 상황에 놓인다. 이는 고통을 희화화하는 마을 사람들의 기이한 반응과 별개로 반복되는 말하기가 고통을 해소하는 길이 되어주지 못함을 보여준다. 본고에서는 그 대안이 되어줄 다른 말하기의 길을 찾고자 시도한다. 이를 위해서는 말하기에 사용된 용어나 방식의 변화가 아닌, 말하기의 계기와 내용의 변화를 전제로 해야 한다. 우선 본고에서는 샹린 댁의 언어화가 고립으로 이어진 주된 요인을 살펴본다. 샹린 댁의 언어화는 고통의 번역 불가능성을 은폐했으며, 압력의 일시적인 배출 작용을 했다. 이어서 사랑하는 대상을 상실한 후 남겨진 자의 삶을 고민할 때 주요하게 언급되는 논의 중 하나인 프로이트의 애도 이론을 살펴본다. 그리고 애도를 통한 청산이 샹린 댁의 반복되는 말하기에 대안이 되지 못하는 이유를 청산의 가능성, 윤리성, 가치라는 세 가지 차원에서 찾는다. 마지막으로 이러한 세 가지 차원의 애도 불가능성이 레비나스가 말하는 ‘얼굴’ 개념에서는 ‘얼굴’의 명령을 듣기 위한 가능성이 된다는 점에 주목한다. 이에 따라 샹린 댁의 반복되는 언어화에 대한 대안으로 아이의 얼굴과의 대면을 경유한 말하기를 제안한다.

영문 초록

The present study explores how the suffering of the remaining people after the death of a loved one can be a language through Xianglin Sao, a person in ｢The New Year s Sacrifice｣, a short story by Lu Xun. In the story, Xianglin Sao repeated to talk about how she lost her child. However, after all the listeners left, the way of storytelling which she used to relieve her suffering became impossible, and she ended up falling deep into her suffering. This suggests how oddly the town’s people reacted by making a caricature of Xianglin Sao’s suffering, as well as that her repeated talking could not be a way to relieve the suffering. The present study attempts to search for another way of storytelling as a solution. For the sake of this, beyond a change in words or ways Xianglin Sao used for her storytelling, what she talks for and her storytelling contains needs to be changed. First, the present study examines the main causes that made Xianglin sao’s verbalization as isolation. Her verbalization erased the impossibility of translation of suffering, and temporarily released her pressure. Next, the study examines the Freudian theory of mourning, which is one of the frequently mentioned theories when thinking over how the remaining people after the death of a loved one continue to live. And it explores the reason why pulling oneself together by mourning cannot be a solution for Xianglin Sao’s repeated storytelling in terms of possibility, ethicality, and value. Finally, the present study takes note of that the impossibility of mourning in these three terms can be a possibility to listen to instructions from the ‘Visage’, which is the concept Emmanuel Levinas states. Accordingly, as a solution for Xianglin Sao’s repeated verbalization, the present writer suggests talking after facing the ‘Visage’ of her child.
