국문 초록

오늘날 대학 교양교육에서 세계시민교육이 핵심적인 부분으로 부상하고 있다. 이를 위해 문화간 역량 교육이 특히 중요한데, 이 시대 공동의 문제를 해결하기 위해 다른 사람과 협력하고 연대와 형평성을 증진하는데 필요한 기본적인 능력이 되기 때문이다. 본 연구는 해외 체험 프로그램이 문화간 역량을 향상시킨다는 전제에서 출발한다. 선행 연구들은 체험 프로그램을 통한 문화간 역량 향상의 매개 변인으로 언어 능력 등 개인 변인에 초점을 맞춘다. 본 연구의 목적은 문화간 커뮤니케이션 역량 중 하나인 문화간 감수성 향상에 있어, 해외 체험 프로그램의 해외 활동 구성 요인이 어떤 영향을 미치는지 검증하는 것이다. 서울여대에서 2012년, 2013년 2년간 진행된 프로그램 참여자 중 183명을 대상으로, 프로그램 사전과 사후에 각각 설문 조사를 실시한 후 분석하였다. 사전 문화간 감수성 점수와 개인 변인을 통제하고 회귀분석한 결과, 해외 활동 구성 요인이 문화간 감수성 향상에 독립적으로 의미 있는 변인임이 증명되었으며, 특히 갈등 상황에 대한 설명, 현지 또래와의 우정 기회, 한국인 팀원 간의 유대 등이 문화간 감수성에 영향을 미치는 통계적으로 의미 있는 변인임이 확인되었다. 이론 중심의 교과목 개발을 통해 글로벌 현안에 대한 학문적 관심과 지식의 증대를 지향한다면, 해외 체험 프로그램은 타문화에 대한 개방적 태도, 문화간 커뮤니케이션 역량을 향상시키기 위한 체험 학습의 장이 될 수 있다. 결론에서는 분석 결과를 기초로 프로그램 개선을 위한 제언을 하였다.

영문 초록

Global Citizenship education is increasingly becoming an essential part of current curriculum of higher education. To live successfully in a globalized world, students must develop appropriate skills, knowledge, attitudes, in short, intercultural competence . Global citizens must be culturally sensitive and self aware in particular, because the attitude is crucial for every step of the way toward global coexistence and solidarity. This study starts with the assumption that short-term experiential learning abroad program can contribute to improving the intercultural competence of the participants. Some preliminary analyses highlighted the personal variables such as perceived language ability in improving intercultural sensitivity. The aim of the study is to investigate the effects of the program conditions on intercultural sensitivity, which is supposed to provide helpful insight on enhancing continual improvement of the program. The short-term experiential learning abroad programs were organized by Seoul Women s University for students to experience different cultures or volunteer work in various part of the world in 2012 and 2013. The participants of the study include 183 students who joined the programs. The results of multiple regression analysis reveal that the program conditions variables such as cognitive input/explanation about cultural shock, friendship potential with the peer counterpart, sense of solidarity with Korean teammates lead to a higher level of intercultural sensitivity, when having controlled the pre-IS score and personal variables. Some implications and suggestions for overseas program are discussed.
