한국 문화차원으로서 ‘결과중시’의 개념화 및 측정도구 개발

국문 초록

본 연구는 결과를 중시하는 가치 및 현상이 한국사회에 내면화된 하나의 문화차원으로 볼 수 있을 것인지, 만약 결과중시가 한국의 문화차원 중 하나라면 이를 어떻게 측정할 수 있을지에 대한 해답을 찾으려는 노력에서 시작되었다. 기존의 비교문화연구는 통합적 관점에서 다양한 문화차원에 대한 국가 간 비교를 목적으로 하므로 한국의 결과중시문화를 적확하게 측정하는 데에는 한계가 있다. 또한 국내의 연구는 측정도구개발의 객관적 절차에 따라 결과중시 개념을 측정하기 보다는 직관적·발견적 측면에서 연구가 진행되어왔다는 한계가 있다. 이러한 한계를 보완하여 한국사회의 특성에 맞는 결과중시 문화를 측정하기 위하여, 1단계로 연역적·귀납적 자료 구축을 통해 결과중시를 개념화 하고 2단계로 예비조사를 통해 내용타당도 및 문항신뢰도를 검증하였다. 3단계로는 1차 본조사를 통해 수렴타당도, 판별타당도를 확보하였으며 마지막 단계로 2차 본조사를 실시하여 법칙타당도를 확보하였다. 이상의 과정을 통해 한국의 결과중시문화는 목표를 달성하는 과정보다는 성취의 결과 그 자체를 보상하는 하나의 체계임을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 결과중시문화는 성과를 중시하고 경쟁이 치열한 한국사회의 현상적 특성을 측정할 뿐만 아니라, 신속하고 수월한 결과 달성을 위해 융통성과 신속성이 강조되는 사회적 기준을 모두 측정해야 할 필요성을 확인하였다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서 한국의 결과중시문화의 하위항목을 ‘신속성’, ‘성과경쟁중시’, ‘융통성’으로 규명하였고, 이를 측정하는 도구로서 총 12문항을 개발하였다.

영문 초록

This study aims at examining whether Korean culture has a ‘result orientation’ as an integral component and, if it is right, establishing the tools to measure this orientation. Since the existing cross-cultural studies have taken an etic approach primarily comparing different cultures, they could not measure the result-orientation of Korean culture properly. On the other hand, studies based on an emic approach have been limited to intuitive and heuristic findings that usually lack objective measurement. To complement these shortcomings, we conceptualized a ‘result-orientation’ of Korean culture through deductive and inductive data collection (1ststage), and then tested contents validity and reliability of the preliminary survey (2nd stage). Next, we conducted the first main survey to test convergent validity and discriminant validity (3rd stage). Lastly, we carried out the second main survey and checked nomological validity of measuring tools. Result-orientation of Korean culture can be understood as a social reward system providing compensation toward performances themselves rather than processes through which a goal is achieved. Accordingly, Korea’s result-orientated culture has to be measured through not only social phenomena emphasizing performances and accompanying intense competition but also accepted social standards of hastiness and flexibility as means of accomplishing results. Consequently, Korea’s result-orientated culture consists of three subcategories: ‘hastiness’, ‘importance of performance and competition’, and ‘flexibility’, and the total 12items were developed as their measurement items.
