발달장애대학생의 대학생활 경험과 의미

국문 초록

이 연구는 최근 발달장애인을 위한 고등교육 서비스가 확대되어감에 따라, 현재 대학생활을 영위하고 있는 발달장애 대학생의 대학생활에 대한 경험과 그 의미를 이해하는데 목적이 있었다. 이를 위해 발달장애인을 위한 학위과정의 고등교육서비스를 제공하는 Y대학 Z학과에 재학 중인 발달장애 대학생 5명을 참여자로 하여 심층면담을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 발달장애대학생의 대학생활에 대한 경험과 의미는 ‘대학, 내 삶의 터닝 포인트’, ‘학과, 비로소 내가 섞일 수 있는 곳’, ‘대학은 큰 사회로 나가기 전 작은 사회’, ‘대학생활의 목표, 좋은 곳에 취업하는 것’의 4가지 상위범주와 17개의 하위범주, 그리고 54개의 의미단위가 도출되었다. 이 연구를 통해 첫째, 발달장애인 당사자가 구성하는 고등교육의 의미에 대해서 파악할 수 있었으며 둘째, 고등교육이 발달장애대학생에게 중요한 성장의 장이 됨을 확인할 수 있었고, 셋째, 발달장애인을 위한 지원과 환경조성에 필요한 여러 가지 조건에 대한 정보를 얻을 수 있었다.

영문 초록

With the recent expansion of higher education services for people with developmental disabilities, the purpose of this study is to understand the university life experiences and meaning of students with developmental disabilities. There is only one university that has a department for students with developmental disabilities in Korea. Participants of this study are five students in the department. In-depth interviews were conducted for this research. Collected data were analyzed by using qualitative research method. As a result, four upper themes were categorized: (1) university, turning point of my life; (2) major, the group that I can mix with; (3) University, a small society before bigger society; and (4) The purpose of university life is finding a good job. These upper themes have 17 sub-themes and 54 meaning units. The significance of the study is as follows: First, this study was able to identify the experiences and meanings of university life that were composed of students with developmental disabilities. Second, higher education means a place for growth for the students. Third, this study was able to get information about various conditions required for support and environmental development for people with developmental disabilities.
