국문 초록

본 논문은 1973년부터 2005년까지의 자료를 사용하여, OECD 15개 국가를 대상으로 FTA의 국가 간 연구개발 파급에 대한 효과를 실증적으로 살펴보았다. 본 논문에서는 실증분석을 위하여 동태적 패널 회귀분석(dynamic panel regressions)방법론을 이용하였는데, 본 연구 결과에 따르면 해당 교역국 수입량 가중치를 이용해 계산된 자유무역협정 상대 회원국의 연구개발 스톡 (R&D stock)은 국가의 총요소생산성(TFP)에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 FTA를 통해 상대 회원국의 지식 모둠(knowledge pool)에 대한 접근이 확대되고 수입 상품의 다양성이 증가함으로써 나타나는 효과로 해석될 수 있다.

영문 초록

Using a sample of 15 OECD countries from 1973 to 2005, this paper investigates whether free trade agreements (FTAs) enhance R&D spillovers across national borders. Dynamic panel regressions employing an advanced estimation technique lend strong support to these hypotheses. The paper finds that a country’s total factor productivity (TFP) significantly benefits from import weighted foreign R&D as trade strengthens the country’s access to foreign knowledge pool. By extending the number of varieties traded between partner countries, FTAs further improve productivity of these countries.
