국문 초록

과거 일제의 잔재로만 여겨졌던 근대문화유산은 도시의 형성과정과 사회·문화적 변화를 이해하는 중요한 수단으로 기능하고 있다. 실제 일제강점기 개항도시였던 인천, 군산, 목포 등에서는 이를 도시재생의 주요 수단으로 활용하고 있다. 마산지역 또한 당시의 주요 개항도시로서 지금도 도시 곳곳에 근대문화유산이 분포해 있다. 그러나 이에 대한 인식과 연구 부족으로 인해 지금까지 많은 근대문화유산이 훼손, 철거되었다. 왜소화ㆍ공동화되어가는 지역 경제의 활성화, 나아가 종합적 도시재생이라는 측면에서 안타까운 일이 아닐 수 없다. 본고에서는 역사와 교육이 결합한 다크투어리즘에 주목하여 마산지역 근대문화유산의 활용방안을 모색하였다. 이를 위해 마산지역 근대문화유산의 현황 및 활용 실태를 살펴보고, 다크투어리즘 유형화를 통해 대상지로서의 활용성을 검토한 후 단계적인 방안을 제시하였다. 이 연구는 지금까지 주목받지 못한 마산지역 근대문화유산에 대한 관심을 불러일으키는 계기를 제공할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The modern cultural heritage had been reckoned as remnants of the Japanese colonial past but it is an important medium that explains the formation and sociocultural transition of a city. Inchon, Gunsan and Mokpo which were the opening cities during Japanese occupation actually use these as the major instrument of urban regeneration. Masan was a major opening city in that period as well, and a lot of modern cultural heritage are distributed throughout the city. But plenty of them have been damaged or demolished due to a lack of awareness and research. This is unfortunate and regrettable because using these cultural heritage can be help to revive regional economy that has been declining and further can be used for integrated urban regeneration. In this study, I took note of Dark Tourism combining history and education so as to seek utilizing plans of modern cultural heritage in Masan region. First, for this, I grasped the present condition and use state of modern cultural heritage in Masan area, checked an availability through Dark Tourism typology and suggested gradational utilizing plans of these cultural resources. This study would be able to provide an occasion to kindle interest in modern cultural heritage in Masan region that have not been brought the gaze of the public so far.
