원선제를 중심으로 한 중국 영화의 산업화 개혁

국문 초록

중국 영화시장은 세계에서 가장 많은 극장 스크린과 두 번째로 많은 극장매출을 가지고 있는 세계에서 가장 빠르게 성장하고 있는 시장이다. 하지만 2001년까지만 해도 중국 영화산업은 심각한 침체에 빠져 있었다. 본 연구의 목적은 2002년부터 중국 영화산업을 지배하던 계획경제체제를 시장경제체제로 전환시키며 중국영화산업의 도약을 가져온 원선제(院线制)를 필두로 한 영화 산업화 개혁정책의 추진배경과 정책 내용, 그리고 그 성과를 분석하는 데 있다. 본 연구가 특히 원선제에 주목한 이유는 중국 영화산업에 있어서 원선은 단순한 극장체인이 아닌 영화산업에 시장경제를 도입하기 위한 도구로써 영화의 배급단계를 간소화하여 영화배급의 효율성을 향상시킬 뿐만 아니라 영화산업 전반에 경쟁을 도입하여 극장들은 시설개선에 나서고 영화 제작사들은 양질의 다양한 영화를 제작하도록 하는 첨병의 역할을 하고 있다고 판단했기 때문이다. 본 연구는 우선 원선제 시행 이전의 중국 영화산업의 상황을 살펴본 후, 정부의 여러 개혁시도에도 불구하고 심각한 침체 상태에 있었던 영화산업을 살리기 위한 중국정부의 원선제를 비롯한 일련의 산업화 개혁조치들을 상세히 고찰하였다. 그리고 중국정부가 원선제를 개혁의 중심에 둔 이유를 논의하고 원선시장 집중도의 변화, 국산영화의 성장, 극장수입 배분의 변화, 극장 및 스크린 수의 증가, 영화제작편수의 증가, 영화흥행수입의 증가 등 다양하고 객관적인 양적 질적 지표에 대한 분석을 통해 중국 영화의 산업화 개혁이 영화산업 진흥 목적을 어느 정도 달성하였다고 평가하였다. 마지막으로 향후 해결해야할 문제점들에 대해서도 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The Chinese film market is the fastest growing market in the world, with the world’s most theater screens and the second largest box office. However, it was in a serious downturn by 2001, and the reform of industrialization has changed it since 2002. The purpose of this study is to investigate the background, policy contents, and the performance of the reform of China’s film industrialization, especially the reform of the Yuan Xian system(similar to the theater chain system). The reason for the particular attention to the reform of the Yuan Xian system is that it is not simply a theater chain, but also a tool to introduce the market economy to the Chinese film industry which was dominated by the planned economic system. It simplified the distribution of films and improved the efficiency of film distribution. Moreover, it made all the theaters trying to improve the facilities and the film producers to make a variety of competitive films. This study first examined the situation of the Chinese film industry prior to the reform of the Yuan Xian system and then the details of the Chinese government’s industrialization reform measures including the reform of Yuan Xian system to revitalize the film industry. And this study evaluated whether these reform measures achieved the intended purposes in terms of various quantitative and qualitative indicators. In addition, this study discussed the reasons why the Chinese government treated the reform of the Yuan Xian system as the center of industrialization reform and the problems to be solved in the future in Chinese film industry.
