영문 초록

The conflict m anagem ent of forest recreation, especially conflict m anagem ent betw een hikers and M TB users, has draw n m uch attention as one of m ajor issues in forest policy m aking. The m ain purpose of this study w as to investigate hikers’ conflict perception against M TB users and their attitudes tow ard the necessity of conflict m anagem ent actions, and to identify factors influencing those attitudes. The research data w ere collected through online surveys of 644 m en and w om en hikers w ho are aged 20 or older and not participating in M TB riding. The m ajor findings of this study can be sum m arized as follow s: First, the levels of goal interference and social value conflicts against M TB users w ere not so high, but rather, the aw areness level of com patibility w as m uch higher than that of conflict, and hikers’ aw areness level of safety risks posed by M TB users w as also considerably high. Second, hikers’ attitudes tow ard the necessity of conflict m anagem ent actions w ere generally show n to be considerably positive, but those attitudes tow ard indirect m anagem ent actions such as inform ation, education, and com pliance w ith norm s of conduct, w ere significantly positive than those attitudes tow ard direct m anagem ent m easures such as zoning, enforcem ent, and regulations. Finally, the results of the m ultiple regression analysis show ed that four factors that m ost significantly affect hikers’ attitudes tow ard direct or indirect conflict m anagem ent actions are behavioral norm s conflict, safety risk, com patibility and age. Safety risks had m ost im portant influence on hikers’ attitudes tow ard the direct m anagem ent actions, but behavioral norm s conflicts had m ost im portant influence on indirect m anagem ent actions.
