수능 영어 절대평가 정책에 대한 비판적 담론분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 수능 영어 절대평가 정책을 둘러싼 사교육 영어 강사들의 담론을 분석하여 수능 절대평가가 재현되는 방식과 그 효과를 밝히고자 한다. 한국 교육 생태계에서 사교육 강사는 공식적인 교육 정책을 재구성하여 학부모 및 학생들에게 제공하는 매개자 역할을 하며 정책에 대한 인식 형성에 중요한 영향을 미친다. 본 연구는 사교육 시장의 “스타 강사” 공개강좌에 나타난 담론을 Van Leeuwen(2008)의 비판적 담론분석 방법을 이용하여 분석한다. 분석 결과 두 가지 영역에서 주요한 담론의 재맥락화가 일어나는 것을 확인하였다. 첫째, 사교육 강사는 교육부/평가원 및 학생의 행위를 부정적으로 평가하는 반면, 자신은 정확한 분석을 통해 신뢰할 만한 정보를 제공하는 긍정적 주체로 평가한다. 둘째, 그들은 수능 영어 절대평가 정책을 “기회”, “1등급”, “입시”로 재현한다. 본 연구는 이러한 재맥락화를 통해 절대평가 체제에서도 입시 경쟁이 합리화되고 절대평가 시행 전과 같은 학습윤리가 강조될 수 있다고 주장한다.

영문 초록

This study examines how the new policy of criterion-referenced assessment in the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) English section is represented in the discourses produced by English instructors in the private education sector and what discursive effects the representations bring out. In South Korea’s education ecology, the instructors in the private sector play an important role in mediating the government’s education policies with students and their parents and forming their perceptions regarding the policies. Drawing on Van Leeuwen’s(2008) approach to critical discourse analysis, this project analyzes online lectures on the criterion-referenced assessment policy created and posted by popular English instructors. The analysis reveals that the instructors recontextualize the policy with regard to social actors and social practice. First, they negatively evaluate the actions of the Ministry of Education, Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation and students while positioning themselves as a positive entity that provides reliable and accurate information. Second, they represent the criterion-referenced assessment policy as related to “opportunity”, “the first grade”, and “college entrance”. This paper suggests that such recontextualization of the new CSAT policy may perpetuate the logic of competition for successful college entrance.
