A New High-Yielding and Tip-Burn Resistant Leaf Lettuce Cultivar, “Hacheong”

영문 초록

Hacheong is a new leaf lettuce variety developed at the National Institute of Highland Agriculture during the period from 1999 to 2004 through a pedigree selection program. Hacheong was selected from a cross between a late bolting and high yielding Haji-cheongchugmyeon and a late bolting and disease Autumn Gold. Hacheong is a very late bolter and tip-burn resistant and has light green and broad elliptical leaves with less bitter taste than current leading variety, Yeorem-cheongchugmyeon. Hacheong contains less amount of total bitter sesquiterpene lactones(BSL) of 48.1 μg/g than the check variety of 58.6 μg/g dry weight. In 6 regional adaptability trials conducted in five locations from 2003 to 2004, the new variety showed higher yielding ability consistently than the check variety by approximately 7%.
