다문화적 관점에서 본 <임화정연>에 나타난 ‘시비 석가월’의 인물 시론

국문 초록

<임화정연> 즉 <사성기봉>소설은 조선조 양반가문을 배경으로 하고 있는 가문소설이다. 본고는 <임화정연>에서 작품을 관류하면서 눈에 띄는 활약을 하는 시비 ‘석가월’의 정체성에 주목하게 되었다. 작금의 다문화 사회에 상응하여 조선 조 고전소설 속의 인물을 바라보는 연구 시각과 방법도 전환, 확장될 필요가 있다. 주로 정주자적, 주류적 인물 중심에서 비주류, 주변적, 타자적 존재에 대한 관심의 확대가 요구되었다. 본고는 이러한 시의적 주제의식을 갖고 가문소설 <임화정연>에 나타난 ‘시비석가월’의 인물에 관한 시론적 연구를 진행하였다. 첫째, 다문화적 관점에서의 가문소설 연구 의의를 살펴보았고, 둘째, 타자적 중심인물로 보여진 시비 석가월의 타자적 특성과 의미를 살펴보았다. 셋째, <임화정연>에서 ‘석가월’을 통해 본 다문화적 면모 및 다문화적 면모가 가문소설의 형성에 어떤 구성요소로 작용하는지를 고찰하였다. 석가월의 일련의 서사적 행위는, 타자적 인물이 주류적, 중심적 존재로 구심화되면서 궁극적으로는 주류적, 중심적 가문 구성원들의 소통과 통합을 이루어 냈다. 타자적, 주변적 존재로서 중심 구성원들의 소통과 통합의 정점을 일구어낸 석가월은 다문화적 면모를 지닌 인물의 한 전형을 제시하고 있다는 의의가 크다. 본고는, <임화정연>이 다문화적 관점에서 처음 시도되었다는 점과, ‘석가월’에 대한 인물 연구가 기존의 단편적, 부분적, 소략한 비중이었던 데 반해, 시론이기는 하나 구체적으로 처음으로 본격 논의된 연구라는 점에서 연구 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

, or is a family novel set in the Choseon Dynasty. This paper was given attention to the outstanding identity of female servant ‘Sukgawol’ as it moved on from . Research perspectives and methods of looking at the characters in Choseon s classical novels need to be changed and expanded in response to the recent multicultural society. Expanding interest in non-mainstream, peripheral and othered existence was required, mainly in the center of the settled, mainstream characters. With this subject reflecting the times, I conducted a contemporary study on the character of “Sukgawol” in the family novel A First, we looked at the meaning of the study of family novels from a multicultural point of view, and secondly, we looked at the characteristics and meaning of Sukgawol, as an othered central figure. Third, the multicultural aspects viewed through “” in “Sukgawol” were examined to see which components played a role in the formation of family novels. A series of epic acts of Sukgawol ultimately resulted in communication and harmony among members of the mainstream and central family, as the othered character was centered on the mainstream and central existence. Sakyamuni s Birthday, which marks the height of communication and integration, is meaningful in that it offers a model of a multicultural character from a multicultural perspective. The present study is meaningful in that it has tried from a multicultural point of view whereas the earlier character study of ‘Sukgawol’ was piecemeal, partial and insufficient.
