영문 초록

As an exotic species, largemouth bass (Microperus salmonids) adversely affects the health of aquatic ecosystem in Korea. However, bass is in high calcium and protein but low fat compare to other freshwater fish and is used for various recipe as a food item with a high nutritional value. Field awareness survey was conducted for citizen to get information for future bass management in this study. Sixty-four percent of respondents knew bass and 95% of them were aware of the problems that can caused by bass in ecosystem. Although 97% of respondent had bad image for bass, 72% of respondent knew bass as an edible fish and 34% of respondent replied that bass can be commercialized. Therefore, works for improving the citizen’s awareness on bass using education and public relation are needed. If bass can be used economical food resource, bass population can be controlled effectively and help the restore the aquatic ecosystem health.
