스토리텔링 치료의 관점에서 본 <덴동어미화전가>와 그 현대적 수용 사례 연구

국문 초록

21세기 ‘자살공화국’ 대한민국의 오늘을 사는 사람들은 공감과 치유의 언어를 자유로이 구사하는 탁월한 이야기 치료사로서 고전 <덴동어미화 전가>의 주인공 덴동어미를 호출했다. 자기 시대 서발턴 여성의 대표성을 띤 덴동어미는 화전놀이 하는 날 청춘과부의 정답 없는 질문이라는 외부적 계기를 통해 자기의 신산스러운 과거를 하나의 의미 있는 기억 서사로 꿰어낸다. 덴동어미가 현장에서 얼굴을 마주보고 인생 ‘스토리’를 ‘텔링’하는 행위는 위로와 공감을 생성하는 스토리텔링 치료의 현장이었다. 청춘과부는 네 번이나 상부한 덴동어미의 간난신고 인생담을 들으면 서 “십육세 요사 임뿐이요 십칠 세 과부 나뿐이지”라며 자기 불행을 절대화하던 주관성의 동굴에서 문제를 문제 바깥에서 객관적으로 바라볼 수 있게 된다. 덴동어미의 말은 그녀 개인의 말이면서 동시에 침묵을 지키는 혹은 침묵을 강요당하는 수많은 서발턴 여성들의 말이기도 하다. 서발턴 여성의 말을 잘 듣기 위해서는 ‘결을 거슬러 읽는 독법’이 필요하다.「덴동어미전」은 <덴동어미화전가>의 화전놀이 여정을 준비과정부터 추억하는 시점까지 시공간을 확장하여 그려낸 소설로서 <덴동어미화전가>의 미적 특징과 문학 치료적 가치를 최대한 살리고자 애썼다. 또한 ‘결을 거슬러 읽는 독법’의 일환으로 거듭 개가를 말리고 수절을 권하는 덴동어미의 말에서 ‘보이지 않는 이면’을 드러내고자 했다. 이를테면 덴동어미의 수절 권유에서 여자의 운명을 시집 혹은 남편에게 얽매는 가부장제 프레임의 허구성을 폭로하고, 학업과 사회진출 등 삶의 다른 가능성에 대한 도전을 시사하도록 했다. 덴동어미 캐릭터의 핵심적 특징은 일원적 중심성을 벗어나 무한히 다시 태어나는 치유적 생기에 있다. 그러므로 이 캐릭터는 치유적 생기가 필요한 모든 곳에서 거듭 되살려낼 가치가 있다. 덴동어미처럼 무애자재 한 캐릭터야말로 캐서린 헤일스가 말한 ‘또 다른 포스트휴먼’의 자질일 것이다.

영문 초록

The fact that a certain character of the past is interpellated at present means that the present need of the cultural creator and consumers has begun to write and speak under the character s mask. Those who live in Republic of Korea, so-called suicide republic , in the 21st century interpellate Dendong s mama of a classic, Dengdong s mama Hwajeonga, as an excellent storyteller who uses the language of sympathy and healing freely. The words of Dendong s mama are not only her personal words but also the words of many subaltern women who keep silence or are forced to be silenced. To listen to the words of subaltern women, it is necessary to understand the background and to read the unspoken stories. A story of Dendong s mama is a novel that expands the time and space of Dengdong s mama Hwajeonga from the preparatory process of Hwajeon Nori(women s Spring picnic making pan-fried rice cake with flower petals) to the time of remembrance. As the author of it, I tried to make the most of the aesthetic features and literary therapeutic value of the original text and at the same time to reveal that ironically the words of Dendong s mama who encouraged a young widow character to remain faithful to her deceased husband may turn out to expose the fictitiousness of the patriarchal frame which confines the fate of a woman to marriage or husband and to suggest a challenge to other possibilities of life such as academic and social advancement. Dendong’s mama is a repeatedly newly born human who gets out of the universal identity and unified centricity defined by her own age among the classical female characters. A character like a dendong’s mama is an attribute of another post-human .
