국문 초록

소비변수의 과도한 평단성 문제를 한국의 자료를 사용하여 경험적으로 분석한다. 기존의 전통적인 ARIMA 모형이 수준변수에 대해 사용되었을 때에 항상소득가설이 예측하는 바에 반하여, 미국의 자료에서처럼, 과도한 평탄성이 유사하게 발견된다. 그러나 보다 일반적인 저 빈도 행태가 고려될 수 있는 ARFIMA 모형을 사용하면 과도한 평탄성은 사라지는 것으로 나타난다. 모든 검정의 결과들은 GHP 방법에 의한 구간 추정치로 부터가 아닌 최우추정법에 의해서 추정된 모형 가운데서 적절하게 선택된 점 추청치로부터 얻어지며 더욱 분명한 해석이 가능하게 된다. 한국의 자료에서 얻어진 결과는 과도한 평탄성 현상이, 소비에 대한 항상소득가설의 함축성을 훼손시킬지도 모르는, 심각한 문제가 아닌 듯 하다는 것을 추가적으로 보여준다.

영문 초록

The issue of excess smoothness of consumption is empirically examined for Korean data. When conventional ARIMA representation of income is employed, excess smoothness phenomenon is also found, as in U.S. data, contrary to prediction of the PIH. However, when ARFIMA representation that allows more general low frequency behavior is considered, the excess smoothness appears to vanish. All test results are obtained from the point estimates of appropriately selected models estimated by maximum likelihood method rather than from interval estimates by GHP, and more decisive interpretation becomes possible. The Korean evidence additionally shows that excess smoothness phenomenon is not likely to be a significant problem that may damage the implication of the PIH on consumption.
