일송 윤덕선의 병원, 대학 설립과 경영철학

국문 초록

한림대학교와 성심병원의 설립자인 일송 윤덕선 박사는 대표적인 의사 출신 병원 경영인이다. 일제 강점기 경성의학전문학교를 졸업한 윤 박사는 미국에서 선진 의술을 배웠다. 가톨릭 대학교 의과대학에서 교수로 재직하다 민간 병원을 세우고 대학, 병원 등을 아우르는 재단을 일궈냈다. 그는 평범한 의사에서 창업 경영자로 변신한 ‘1세대 병원 경영인’의 대표적인 사례 다. 국내 의사가 의원, 병원에서 출발해서 종합대와 대학병원을 아우르는 재단을 일궈낸 사례는 9명에 불과하다. 그동안 국내 학계는 병원경영을 의료행정의 관점에서 봤기 때문에 병원 경영인과 관련된 연구가 많지 않았다. 1세대 병원 경영인을 연구하는 것은 학술적인 가치가 있다. 본 연구는 경영사적 연구방법을 택했고 이 중에서도 기업가사적 연구방법을 활용해 윤 박사의 기업가정신 및 경영철학을 연구했다. 기록 자체가 많지 않아 언론 인터뷰, 평전, 병원 기록, 추모집 등을 분석했다. 연구 결과 가톨릭 가문에서 성장한 윤 박사는 기업 경영인들과는 달리 가톨릭 정신을 바탕으로 이윤 보다는 사회공헌을 목표로 삼은 사회적 기업가정신을 지닌 경영인이었다. 최선을 다하면 부수적으로 이윤을 낼 수 있지만 이윤을 목적으로 돈만 좆으면 사업이 본래 구상에서 크게 벗어난다고 생각했다. 그렇다고 기업가정신이 없었던 것도 아니다. 그는 병원 책임자는 야심이 있어야 한다고 했다. 윤 박사의 사례는 존경할 만한 병원 경영인의 사례가 부족한 현실에서 병원 경영인들에게 큰 귀감이 될 것으로 판단된다. 본 연구 결과는 이들의 경영철학과 의사결정에 크게 기여할 것으로 보인다.

영문 초록

Dr. Ilsong Yoon Duck-sun, founder of Hallym University and Sungsim Hospital, is a representative medical doctor and hospital administrator. During the Japanese occupation Yoon graduated from Graduated from Gyeongseong Medical Professional School and learn advanced medical care in the United States. After serving as a professor at the Catholic University of Korea’s College of Medicine, he established a private hospital and established a foundation for universities and hospitals. He is a prime example of the first generation hospital owner who turned himself from an ordinary doctor to a start-up entrepreneur. Only nine doctors in Korea have found a foundation for university and university hospitals, starting with lawmakers and hospitals. So far, there have been few studies related to hospital management because the Korean academic community viewed hospital management from the perspective of medical administration. Studying first-generation hospital operators will have academic value. The study adopted a management private research method, among which it studied the entrepreneurship and management philosophy of Yoon. There were not many records in itself, so he analyzed press interviews, evaluation sessions, hospital records, and memorial houses. Yoon, who grew up in a Catholic family, was a social entrepreneur who aimed at social contribution rather than profit, unlike corporate managers. If you do your best, you can make an additional profit, but if you turn your money around for profit, your business will be far out of your original idea. “This is not to say that they lacked entrepreneurship. He said the hospital director should have ambition. The case of Dr. Yoon Deok-sun is considered to be a great example for hospital managers in a situation where there are insufficient cases of respectable hospital managers. The results of the study are expected to contribute greatly to their management philosophy and decision-making.
