북한이탈주민의 경제사회화에 관한 질적 연구 : 일과 진로를 중심으로

국문 초록

이 연구는 북한이탈주민이 북한에서 남한으로 이주하기까지 일과 진로에 대해 어떤 경제사회화 과정을 경험하였는가를 탐색하고, 남한에 성공적으로 정착하기 위한 진로 교육적 대안을 제안하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 연구참여자인 20대~50대의 북한이탈 주민 24명과 개별 심층 면담을 수행하고, 이들의 경험을 분석하였다. 연구참여자들이 경험한 일과 진로의 경제사회화 과정은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 북한에서 주민의 진로 선택은 개인의 적성을 고려하기보다 부모의 직업을 세습하여 나타나고 있었다. 둘째, 중국에서 북한이탈주민은 불법적 신분으로 일을 하기 때문에 정당한 대가를 받지 못하고, 북송의 가능성으로 인해 장기적인 진로를 고려하지 못하였다. 셋째, 남한에서 북한이탈주민은 장기적인 진로 계획을 세우기보다 단기적 생존을 위해 일을 하며, 그 과정에서 차별을 경험하고 있었다. 연구 결과에 따른 교육적 시사점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 취업만을 강조하기보다 진로 희망에 따라 교육 과정을 세분화‧다양화하여야 한다. 둘째, 교육과 취업의 연계성을 강조하고, 적절한 금전적 보상을 통해 동기 부여를 할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 취업 과정에서 경험하는 차별을 감소시키기 위하여 다문화 교육을 체계적으로 실시할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to explore the economic socialization process that the North Korean defectors have experienced in their work and career planning until they migrate from North Korea to South Korea and to provide educational implication for the successful settlement of North Korean defectors in South Korea. 24 North Korean defectors’ in-depth interviews were analyzed for this study. A result of the study was as follows. First, North Koreans‘ carrer tended to be determined by the parent s. Second, in China, North Korean defectors experienced wage discrimination and they could not plan for a career due to the instability of their status. Third, in South Korea, North Korean defectors receive various economic and educational support for economic settlement. However, this support focuses on short-term employment rather than long-term career planning. They also might be discriminated in the course of employment. I would like to suggest the educational implications of work and career planning of North Korean defectors. First, according to the desire of the North Korean defectors, career education should be subdivided and diversified. Second, economic support needs to be systematically implemented in connection with career education. Third, It is necessary to include multicultural education in regular curriculum.
