국문 초록

본 연구에서는 미국 고등학교에서 공부하고 있는 두 한국 유학생이 그린 오키나와전투에 관한 만화를 평화 서사와 감정의 정치의 측면에서 분석하였다. 분석의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 두 학생은 오키나와전투를 객관적 시선으로 바라보려고 했으나, 한국인의 정체성에 의해 구축된 ‘피해자의식’이 강하게 작동하였다. 작품 속에서 일본인에 대한 반감, 증오, 혐오의 감정 배치가 두드러지게 나타났고, 미국인은 긍정적인 감정으로 표현되었다. 둘째, 작품에서 나름의 감정의 정치를 확인할 수 있는 데, 충실한 애도와 역사적 맥락의 검토 없이 화해와 상생만을 강조하는 평화 담론을 경계하라는 메시지를 읽을 수 있었다. 셋째, 일본인 일반에서 반감과 증오를 할당할 구체적인 주체를 선별함으로써, 행위 주체와 책임 주체를 분명히 규정하려 하였다. 넷째, 오키나와전투를 미국과 일본의 대립 구도로 설정하고 각각 피해자와 가해자로 고정되게 구별 지어서, 감정대상과 감정 유형을 다양하게 설정하지는 못했다. 우리의 감정은 학습된 감정이며 감정의 정치에 의해 규율되는 감정이라는 점을 깨달을 때, 특정한 ‘감정의 정치’에 저항할 수 있다. 평화의 서사에 작동하는 감정의 정치를 읽어야 하는 이유이기도 하다. 진실한 애도가 있어야 마음의 평화를 이루게 되고 그때 비로소 평화를 이야기할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This aims to analyze a comics, ‘Battle of Okinawa’ drawn by two korean students at a highschool in USA in terms of a narrative of peace and its emotional politics. The result are as follows. First, they have tried to secure their objective eyes on Battle of Okinawa, but because of the ‘victimhood,’ which was structured by korean identity, their antipathy, hate, and disgust against the Japanese stood out in the work. In contrast, Americans were expressed in positive emotions. Second, their emotional politics found in it suggested that we alert peace discourses which just seek reconciliation and coexistence without an honest mourning and an examination of historical contexts. Third, specific subjects were to be selected out of Japanese in general, and their antipathy and hate were to be allocated to the subject of action. Fourth, emotional objects and patterns were not able to be set richly, as Okinawa Battle was addressed around confrontation between USA and Japan, which were identified as victim and perpetrator respectively. We can resist an emotional politics by our own emotional politics, when we can recognize that our emotions are learned emotions and ruled by a politics of emotion. This is why we have to read an emotional politics in a narrative of peace. A faithful mourning makes peace in mind, which enable us to talk about peace.
