영문 초록

The meaning of 느치료샷다 occurring only in the Yongbio-ch’ on-ga (龍飛御天歌) has been lost and has been the subject of controversy these last forty years. This paper attempts a new interpretation 샷다 meaning 시도다 may be added to any verb stem or a noun stem plus 이, but does not combine with a non-utterance ending. Though 르 here is apparently a non-utterance ending, 샷다 is used after it. 샷다 however links with a non-utterance ending in earlier instances(e.g. 업두샷다 in a song of the Koryo period). ᄃᆞ or 로 may follow a noun stem plus 이, while 도다 or 도소니 follows a verb stem. Both 로 and 도 or 두 are variants of ᄃᆞ, which in a verb stem plus 이ᄃᆞ combination may change into 드. In the phrase under study 드 seems to have changed into 르. Hence, 느지 is 샷다 may be interpreted as a variant of 느지르샷다, and since 느지 is 늦 plus 이 and 늦 means 징조, the phrase may be construed to mean 징조이시도다. Morphemes for emphasis, ᄃᆞ and 드, were interchangeable up to the Yongbio-ch’ on·ga.
