『孟子』‘浩然之氣’의 인격미학적 해석

국문 초록

『孟子』‘浩然之氣’의 초점은 도덕성을 확충하려는 ‘配義與道’한 인격의 자발적 도덕의지와 몸 안의 기가 유기적으로 융합하는데 있다. 개인이 도덕적 본성을 자각하 고, ‘浩然之氣’를 통해 善을 실천하는 과정은, 예술에 있어 대상의 진실을 感知하고 작품으로 具顯하는 과정이기도 하다. 孟子가 말한 美는 개인의 전체 인격에 완전하게 체현된 善으로써 일종의 도덕적 자아완성을 의미하기 때문이다. 객관세계의 善의 본질을 파악하고 善을 실천하는 활동은 審美의 感知로 전환될 수 있으며, 이러한 審 美感知는 孟子의 ‘知言’을 통한 ‘配義與道’적 사유에서 확인할 수 있다. ‘配義與道’한 인격의 審美感知는 ‘知言’을 통해 내 마음속에 道, 義가 들어 있음을 直覺하고, ‘浩然 之氣’를 통해 義, 道를 모으고 기르는 체험과정에서 이루어진다. 孟子의 ‘不動心’하는 방법의 구조인 ‘不動心’ ⇄ ‘知言’ ⇄ ‘浩然之氣’의 실천과정은, 미에 대한 탐구의 과정이기도 한 것이다. 이것을 예술 창작에 적용시켜 보면, ‘知言’은 대상을 올바르게 인식하는 것이요, ‘浩然之氣’는 ‘知言’을 바탕으로 예술로 具顯되는 과정이라 하겠다. ‘至大至剛’한 생명력의 審美具顯은 인간의 내재된 도덕정신의 생명력이 작품에서 ‘傳神’과 ‘氣韻生動’으로 구현되는 데에 있다. 孟子는 ‘生色’을 통해 주체의 내재적 정신은 구체적인 형체를 통해 나타나고, 감성의 직관을 통해 파악된다고 보았다. ‘生 色’은 ‘至大至剛’한 ‘浩然之氣’가 躍動하여 밖으로 나타남을 의미한다. 이는 도덕적 생명력이 외형적으로 드러나는 것으로, 감각적으로 볼 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 마음으로 느낄 수 있다. 이러한 孟子의 사유는 도덕적 차원에서 이상적인 인간의 한 전형을 보여주어, 이후 예술이론에서 인품론의 근거로 적용되었다. 작품에서 표현되어 나온 ‘浩然之氣’는 필묵의 기교상의 기운이 아니라 작가의 정신을 대상의 기와 융합 시켜 표현한 것이다. ‘氣韻生動’은 인품이 바탕이 되었을 때 이상적인 氣韻生動으로 여겨지며, 그 이론의 기저에 孟子의 ‘至大至剛’적 생명력이 깔려 있다. 그러므로 작가의 ‘配義與道’한 인격과 정신은 ‘浩然之氣’의 조건이 되고, ‘浩然之氣’는 작품의 ‘至 大至剛’한 기운을 획득하기 위한 조건이 된다.

영문 초록

The focal point of Mencius s Hoyeonjigi(浩然之氣) is organically fusing with enlarging morality Baeuiyeodo(配義與道) personality s voluntary ethics and Ki of the body. The process which individual realizes ethical human nature and fullfills goodness through Hoyeonjigi(浩然之氣) is same process at art that perceives object s truth and realizes to work. Because Mencius s goodness is expressed at indivisual s entire personality and represents a kind of ethical perfection of self. The activity that figures out goodness s essence and fullfills goodness can be converted to esthetical perceivedness. And esthetical perceivedness can be confirmed at Baeuiyeodo(配義與道) s reason through Mencius s perceivedness. Baeuiyeodo(配義與道) s personality of esthetical perceivedness intuits through resonable word that there are Tao and righteousness inside my mind and it is realized at experience process which gather and raise righteous through Hoyeonjigi(浩然之氣). Imperturbable mind ⇄. Resonable word ⇄. Hoyeonjigi(浩然之氣) s process of practicing which is Mencius s imperturbable mind organization is also research process about esthetics. Applying to art creation, resonable word is realizing object properly and Hoyeonjigi(浩然之氣) is the process of expressed by art based on resonable word. Jidaejigang(至大至剛) vitality of esthetical expression is that human s inherent moral spirit s life force is realized in entire body and vibrant aura at work. Through add colour, Mencius thought that the subject s inherent spirit appears through concrete form and is grasped through sensitivity of intuition. Add colour means that throbed Jidaejigang(至大至剛) Hoyeonjigi(浩然之氣) appeared outwards. It is ethical life force exposed physically, we can see sensately and feel inside by heart. This Mencius s reason shows ideal human s model at ethical level. After that, it is applied as grounds of theory of personality at theory of art. Hoyeonjigi(浩然之氣) which expressed at work is not technical energy of pen and ink but expression that fuses creator s mind with object s spirit. When personality is based on, vibrant aura are considered as ideal one , Mencius s Jidaejigang(至大 至剛) life force underlies that theory. Therefore, creator s Baeuiyeodo(配義與道) personality an spirit is qualification for Hoyeonjigi(浩然之氣), Hoyeonjigi(浩然之氣) is qualification for acquiring work s Jidaejigang(至大至剛) energy.
