매튜슨(D. Mathewson)을 포함한 일부 학자들은 히브리서 6:4-8의 주요 단어들이 출애굽 이후 광야 공동체와 관련된 칠십인역의 본문들과 밀접한 관련이 있다고 주장한다. 본 논문에서 필자는 이 접근법을 기초로 하여 언어적 그리고 개념적 병행에 근거하여 새로운 병행 구절들을 제시하고 광야 공동체의 교육공동체적 성격이 히브리서 저자에게 깊은 영향을 미쳤음을 논증할 것이다. 먼저, 일부 학자들은 히브리서 6:4a의 “빛을 받았다”라는 단어의 구약 배경으로 광야 공동체를 인도했던 ‘불기 둥’을 제안하는데, 필자는 오히려 ‘우림과 둠밈’ 그리고 ‘율법’을 이 단어 배후에 놓인 구약 배경으로 제안한다. 또한, 6:4b의 구약 배경으로서 기존에 제시된 만나와 더불어 ‘메추라기’가 이 구절에 대한 추가적 구약 배경이 될 수 있다. 이제까지는 6:4c의 성령에 참여함에 대한 구약 배경 으로서 칠십 인의 장로들이 제안되었는데, 필자는 히브리서 저자가 이구절을 통해 좀 더 폭넓은 사람들(예를 들어, 모세, 브살렐을 포함한 장인 들, 갈렙, 여호수아)을 염두에 두었을 가능성을 제안한다. 히브리서 6:5b 는 홍해 사건과 밀접하게 관련되고 6:7은 신명기 32:2을 배경으로 한다. 히브리서 6:7과 신명기 32:2은 동일한 단어(“비”)를 포함하고 있을 뿐만 아니라 신적 가르침에 대한 은유로써 사용한다. 식물 모티프 또한 두본문의 연결고리이다. 마지막으로 광야공동체가 겪었던 징계에 대한 묘사와 동일한 패턴이 히브리서 6:8에서 발견된다. 이상의 관찰에 근거해서 필자는 히브리서 6:4-8의 어휘와 주제가 광야 공동체 내러티브와 밀접하게 관련되어 있고, 특히 교육 모티프들의 활용이 두드러진다.

영문 초록

Dave Mathewson and others have argued that a close tie is found between the Greek OT passages describing the wilderness community and Hebrews 6:4-8. Based on this insight, I attempt to identify a number of additional connections and argue that the author of Hebrews viewed his audience as an education-centered community. In other words, the educational character of the wilderness community had a strong impact on the author of Hebrews. First, interpreters frequently find in fwtisqe,ntaj in Hebrews 6:4a an echo of the pillar of fire. I identify Thummim and Urim (Ezra 7:65, Neh 2:63) and the law (Deut 33:10, Sir 45:17) to be two other possible elements alluded in 6:4a. Based on linguistic (Pss 78:26-31; 105:40) and contextual ties, I trace the background of 6:4b to the falling down of quails, in addition to manna, which has been suggested as the unique allusion of the phrase. Whereas the reference to the elders of the Seventy is proposed as the allusion of 6:4c, it seems that a wider range of people such as Moses, the craftsmen including Bezalel, Caleb, and Joshua are associated with the event of becoming partakers of the Holy Spirit. Deuteronomy 32:2 will be presented as an allusion to Hebrews 6:7 in that these two cases share the same word, ùetoj, (“rain”), as the metaphor of divine teaching and similar plant motif. Lastly, Hebrews 6:8 and the wilderness community show the same punishment pattern (avdo,kimoj “rejected” - kata,ra “curse” - kau/sij “burning”). The tight linguistic and conceptual links between Hebrews 6:4-8 and narratives on the wilderness community suggest that the author of Hebrews saw his audience as an education-centered community.
