국문 초록

본 논문은 1999년 지주회사제도가 재도입된 이후 제도를 도입한 재벌들의 주요 추세 및 특징을 분석한다. 분석 기간은 10개년도(2001, 2003-2011년)이며 분석 대상은 이 기간 동안 지주회사체제를 채택한 적이 있는 28개 재벌이다. 연구의 주요 내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 지주회사체제를 채택한 재벌은 2001년 2개에서 매년 늘어나 2011년에는 20개로 역대 최고치를 기록하였다. 둘째, 전체 재벌 중 지주회사체제를 채택한 재벌의 비중 또한 지속적으로 증가하여 2001년 7%이던 것이 2011년에는 44%로 역시 최고치를 보였다. 셋째, 28개 재벌 중 21개는 적극적인 지주회사체제를 채택하였으며 22개는 2005년 이후에 체제를 채택하였다. 넷째, 28개 재벌 중 9개는 재벌 순위 10위 이내에 그리고 9개는 11-30위에 속한 적이 있었다. 나머지 10개 재벌은 31위이하였다. 그리고 다섯째, 28개 재벌 중 10개는 지주회사체제 달성 비율이 70%이상이었던 적이 있었다. 6개 재벌 또한 50-69%의 높은 비율을 가졌으며, 나머지 12개 재벌은 50%미만이었다.

영문 초록

This paper analyzes overall trends and characteristics of 28 chaebols which adopted the holding company system between 2001 and 2011. Major findings are as follows. First, chaebols with the holding company system numbered two in 2001 and had since increased year by year to become 20, the largest number, in 2011. Second, the percentage of chaebols with the system compared with total chaebols also increased from 7% in 2001 to 44%, the largest ever, in 2011. Third, of the 28 chaebols with the system, 20 maintained the system still in 2011, while the remaining eight had once adopted the system before 2011; in 21, most of subsidiaries were connected with the system, whereas, in seven, part of subsidiaries were so; and, 22 adopted the system after 2005, while six did so in 2000-2004. Fourth, of the 28 chaebols, nine had been among the ten largest chaebols, and nine among the 11th-30th largest ones. Fifth, in 10 of the 28 chaebols, more than 70% of total subsidiaries had been organized into the system and, in six, 50-69% had been so. And sixth, in six of the 28 chaebols, more than 30 subsidiaries were members of the system and, in 12, 20-29 subsidiaries were so.
