국문 초록

신문기사는 정보화 사회에서 상대적으로 정확하고 검증된 내용들로 평가받고 있으며 이로 인해 다양한 주제들에서 사회적 관심의 척도 또는 일반 시민들의 인식에 영향을 미치는 주요 기제로 분석되어 왔다. 이 연구에서는 지리적 프로파일링 시스템, 즉 GeoPros가 시민들에게 어떻게 전달되고 있는지, 관련 신문기사들을 대상으로 해당 기사의 경향성을 분석해 보았다. 한국언론진흥재단의 기사통합 검색시스템인 KINDS를 통해 분석대상 기사 96건이 추출되었고 발행연도, 유형(중앙, 지방), 정보원, 기사 유형, 논조, 논조의 이유등과 같은 분석 기준들에 대해 2013년 이전과 2014년 이후로 시기를 구분하여 분석하였다. 분석결과 우리나라에서 GeoPros는 중앙지에 의해 이슈가 선점되어 논의되다가 점차 지방지로 확산되고 있음을 파악할 수 있었다. GeoPros에 대한 정보들은 주로 경찰관계자를 통해 제공되고 있으며 이는 사실보도 중심의 기사 유형과 호의적·긍정적 시각 편향의 배경으로 작용하고 있음 또한 확인할 수 있었다. 대부분의 기사들이 그 배경이나 원인에 대한 설명 없이 성공사례를 단순히 제시하고 있으며 이로 인해 GeoPros의 확산에 부정적일 수 있음이 지적되었다. GeoPros가 치안일선에 성공적으로 확산되기 위해서는 객관적이고 타당한 정보의 전달이 병행되어야 하는 바, 이를 위해 필요한 몇 가지 대안들을 제시해 보았다.

영문 초록

Newspaper articles are rated relatively accurate and proven in the information society. So they have been analyzed as a measure of social interest and important factors affecting the perceptions of ordinary citizens. This study analyzed how the Geographic Profiling System(GeoPros) is being communicated to the citizens and the tendency of the articles by analyzing relevant newspaper articles. GeoPros is a policing program that utilized the concept of geographic profiling and has been fully implemented since 2009 in Korea. An integrated search system of the Korean Press Foundation(KINDS) extracted 96 articles relating GeoPros. They were analyzed through analysis criteria such as year of publication, types of newspapers(central or local), sources and types of the news, viewpoints(friendly or critical) and the reasons before and after 2014. The result showed that GeoPros was being preoccupied by the central newspapers and was gradually spreading to local newspapers. Information about GeoPros is mainly provided by police officers and it explains a lot of straight news articles and a lot of favorable attitudes. Most articles simply present success stories without explanations of backgrounds or causes, resulting in a negative effect on the development and spread of GeoPros. In order to spread successfully on the front line, it’s necessary to communicate objective and relevant information about GeoPros. Based on this analysis, some implications for the media and scholars are suggested.
