영문 초록

Mesenchymal chondrosarcoma is a rare, malignant tumor of bone presenting elements of malignant cartilage and undifferentiated stroma. This is to report a case of mesenchymal chondrosarcoma occurred in the mandibular ramus of a 35-year-old female. The findings & results were as follow. 1. Clinical manifestations were not characteristic but followed the usual pattern of other benign tumors of the jaw-only local swelling without pain or ulceration. 2. Radiologic examination disclosed ovoid, diffuse osseous rarefaction without regard for cortical boundaries, combined with mottled radiopaque area. 3. Histologic finding of sheets of highly undifferentiated small, round or oval cells coexisting with chondroid material established the diagnosis in 2 weeks after surgery. The cellular components of undifferentiated cells were interspersed among the cartilagenous material. 4. Complete excision of the tumor by wide resection of involved mandible was followed by immediate mandibular reconstruction. It has permitted normal jaw function and symmetric face to date without any evidence of local recurrence or known metastasis. 5. Additional long term follow-up will be required because of characteristic delayed recurrence or metastasis. Therefore, with the information to date, wide surgical excision and early reconstruction of defected jaw appears reasonable as the preferred treatment of mesenchymal chondrosarcoma occurred in the oro-facial region.
