영문 초록

Retrograde transport of horseradish peroxidase(HRP) was used to study the organization of trigeminal ganglion cells contributing the primary afferent fibers to the infraorbital and mental nerves in the rat. HRP was injected around the infraorbital fissures, mental foramina, and midline regions of the upper and lower gingiva. The trigeminal genglion cells were consisted of two areas-ophthalmo-maxillary(Op/Mx) and mandibular (Mn) areas by cresyl violet stain. The sizes of the cell bodies were measured they were found to range between 10 and 60(m in diameter. HRP applied to infraorbital and mental nerves labeled cells only in the ipsilateral trigeminal ganglion, whereas HRP applied to midline regions of the upper and lower gingiva labeled cells in the both side ganglia. The majority of the HRP labled cells were small or medium in size. Cell bodies innervating the infraorbital nerve were found with greater frequency in the intermediate to lateral parts within the ventral 2/3 level of the Op/Mx area. Cell bodies supplying the mental nerve were predominant in the medial to antero-medial parts within the ventral 2/3 level of the Mn area. These results suggest that the primary afferent neurons contributing to the infraorbital and mental nerves have topographic organization in the trigeminal ganglion, and that many of the labeled ganglion cells of small and medium size may be important for the perception pain from the region supplied by infraorbital and mental nerves.
