국문 초록

현대 유전학은 중고등학교 학생들에게 이해하기 어려운 과목으로 인식되고 있다. 최근 연구들에서 학생들의 유전학에 대한 이해도 및 성취도가 낮게 나타나고 있다고 보고되고 있음에도, 이에 대한 해결책은 제시되고 있지 못한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 교수내용지식 (Pedagogical Content Knowledge) 이론에 근거하여, 교사를 위한 수평적 수직적 교육과정 지식 제공이 해결책이 될 수 있음을 제안한다. 이를 위해 내용교수지식에 대한 소개와 프레임웍을 제시하고, 교사들의 교육과정 지식수준을 측정하기 위한 시범적인 문항들을 개발하였다. 총 7인의 교사들이 연구에 참여해 그들의 수평적 수직적 교육과정 지식이 측정되었다. 또한 인터뷰를 통해 유전학과 관련된 교육과정 지식의 연계성, 적합성, 인식 수준 등에 대해 논의 하였다. 연구결과 교사들의 수평적 교육과정 지식수준은 낮게 나타났으나, 교수내용지식에 대한 중요성은 모든 교사들에 의해 확인되었다.

영문 초록

Modern genetics has been cited as one of the most difficult concepts for middle school and high school students to comprehend. Previous research shows that students at all levels of education hold misconceptions about modern genetics. Science education literature reveals that science teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) plays a critical role in helping students overcome these misconceptions. The purpose of this study is to explore teachers’ lateral and vertical curriculum knowledge, one of PCK components, regarding genetics. After the items on curriculum knowledge had been developed, it was administered to seven science teachers. The findings suggest that participants have a basic level of curriculum knowledge in regards to modern genetics. While these findings are from a small pool of science teachers, this study provides a good insight into curriculum knowledge of science teachers, in which the enhancement of curriculum knowledge will eventually lead to the improvement of PCK as a whole.
