지면 비교와 초점집단 심층면접을 통한 어린이신문의 문제점 분석 및 활성화방안 연구

국문 초록

본연구는 국내 어린이신문의 내용적 문제점과 원인을 탐색하여 이를 개선할 수 방안을 도출해보고자 하였다. 1차적으로 국내에서 발간되는 어린이신문에 대한 내용적 문제점을 파악하기 위해 지면을 비교분석을 실시하였고 , 그 원인과 해법을 탐색하기 위해 초점집단 (초등학생과 학부모, 교사, 언론인, 전문가)을 대상으로 심층인터뷰를 실시하였다 . 내용분석 결과에 따르면, 일반 신문과는 차별되게 이미지와 텍스트를 함께 사용한 형태의 기사와 중립·긍정적인 기사가 가장 많았다 . 어린 이신문의 기사 비중은 42%로 정보·학습적 내용과 광고가 더 높은 비중을 보였다 . 정보·학습 콘텐츠는 영어·한자 학습에 편중되었으며 , 자체 제작보다는 학습콘텐츠 제작업체와 이들의 출판물에 의존하는 경향이 나타났다 . 광고는 도서광고가 주류를 이루었다. 심층인터뷰의 분석결과 , 어린이신문은 사회문제에 대한 관심과 이해 증대, 글쓰기능력과 사고력·판단력 향상에 도움을 주는 것으로 평가되었다 . 하지만 어린이신문이 신문보다는 ‘학습지’에 가깝다고 평가되었다 . 따라서 기사의 비중 확대와 학습·정보 내용과 광고의 축소, 초등학생의 학년별 수준에 맞춘 기사 제공의 필요성이 제기되었다 . 아울러, 어린이신문의 활성화와 가정·학교에서의 이용 활성화를 위해서는 어린이신문의 보급에 대한 재정 지원, 읽기 문화 진흥을 위한 정책의 필요성이 제시되었다 .

영문 초록

The present study explored problems of the four children newspapers in terms of content, and potential remedies to get rid of the identified problems. News, educational or study-aiding information, and advertising content in those newspapers were analyzed. To explore the reasons of and remedies for the identified problems, in-depth interviews were then performed with five focus groups (elementary students and their parents, teachers, journalists from the children newspapers, newspaper-in-education experts). The results show that news explained only forty-two percent of the newspapers’ content. The combined form of news texts and images was the most salient one in the news, and neutral and positive news were also salient. Educational or study-aiding information in the newspapers was mainly focused on English language learning as well as Chinese character learning, which were obtained from outside study-aiding book publishers. The majority of advertising content was about book sales for children. The results of the focus groups show that reading of the newspapers were related to increased interests in social problems and issues, and enhanced writing, thinking and judgment skills of the readers. However, the children newspapers were perceived as not newspapers but study-aiding information sheet . Therefore, the increasing of the amount of news and reducing of the amount of educational/study-aiding information and advertising was requested. The news that reflected knowledge- or educational-levels of elementary students were also requested. Additionally, governmental support and aid policies were suggested to revitalize the children newspapers in children’ home and elementary schools. Policies for boosting book-reading culture were also suggested.
