영문 초록

This study aims at evaluating an impact of quick impact projects(Qips) that had been widely implemented in the first phase of reconstruction in Liberia. While Qips have steadfastly help the reconstruction, reinforcing peace and security, economic recovery and restoration of basic services, concerns and critical sources have also been raised in that they seemingly play a less role in attaining their long-term goal. As such, a case study which contains a public survey and direct observation to UNMIL s quick employment proejct in Sinoe County in May 2010 was conducted to substantiate a question, “In what ways have Qips given an impact to post-conflict Liberia reconstruction?”. As a result, the study indicates that overwhelming majority of respondents represented that peace and security in the county had been consolidated., Secondly, survey results suggests that not only did Qips encourage participants to have confidence and commitment to their communities, they also facilitated social reintegration and cohesion at local level. Finally, findings regarding an economic impact and attainment of a long-term goal are mixed. Though more than a higher rate of respondents appears to appreciate its positive impact on individual poverty reduction in a short-term and willingness to pursue a new opportunity, the study shows little evidence to suggest that Qips facilitated their future employment.
