세계시민성에 대한 중학생과 교사의 인식 실태 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 세계시민성에 대한 중학교 학생과 교사의 인식 실태를 분석는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 이를 위해 연구진은 세계시민성 개념을 지구 시민성, 글로벌시민성 등 유사한 관련 개념들과의 비교 분석을 통해 명료화를 시도하였고, 이를 준거로 학생과 교사의 인식 실태를 기술하고 분석하였다. 먼저 세계시민성은 첫째, 다양한 공간적 스케일에 따른 탄력적․역동적․중첩적 시민성, 둘째, 지구 공동체의 구성원으로서 의식과 행동을 강조하는 시민성, 셋째, 보편과 특수의 상보적 관계를 통해 세계를 조망할 수 있는 시민성으로 재개념화하였다. 다음으로, 학생의 인식 실태는 인지적 영역, 사회·정서적 영역, 행동적 영역으로 설문 항목을 나누어 파악하되, 설문 결과를 통해 영역별로 중요한 것으로 파악된 문항을 선정하여 분석하였다. 세계화 및 세계 체제에 대한 이해, 국가 정체성과 지구 공동체의 관계에 대한 인식, 글로벌 이슈에 대한 자기 효능감과 실천의지가 그것이다. 분석 결과,서로 다른 수준의 스케일에 따른 정체성의 가치와 상호의존성에 대한 이해를 심화하는 학습 활동, 개인적 실천과 사회적 행동의 연대를 가져올 수 있는 활동 및 체험의 활성화가 요구되었다. 마지막으로 교사의 인식 실태는 세계시민성의 개념 인식 실태와 세계시민교육 현황에 대한 인식 실태의 두 범주로 나누어 분석한 다음, 세계화 현상에 대한 정보와 인식을 포함한 지식, 세계시민교육 프로그램 운영 등의 주요 구성 요인들에 대해 해석하였다. 분석 결과, 세계시민교육의 개념과 특성 에 대한 기초적 교사 연수와 교과별 특성을 고려한 교사 역량을 실질적으로 강화할 수 있는 교수학습 매뉴얼의 개발 및 보급이 요구되었다. 교수학습의 두 주체로서의 학생과 교사의 인식 실태에 대한 정보는 세계시민성 교육의 올바른 방향 설 정과 교과별 교수 학습 전략을 수립하기 위한 토대로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to explore students’ and teachers’ ideas and perceptions of global citizenship, in an attempt to suggest the methods by which global citizenship education can be implemented. In order to do this, an attempt to clarify notions of global citizenship has been made by reviewing a body of research on the types of global citizenship and its multiple conceptions. This informed not only the dimension and components of survey questions for students and teachers but also for the selection of the analytical framework of the survey. The main findings of this study can be summarized as follows: First, the direction for reconceptualizing global citizenship can be characterized as multi-faceted, including regional, national and global identity, which alternates in accordance to spatial scale. In addition to this, close attention needs to be paid to the participatory nature of global citizenship, as well as to the importance of the awareness that national identity and global identity are not mutually exclusive. Second, It is crucial to offer students an opportunity to explore the multi-dimensional and flexible nature of personal identity, bringing them to realize the connections and interdependencies between global and local issues. Moreover, attention needs to be drawn to the importance of fostering concern for and commitment to the issue of global community, enabling students to participate in global citizenship projects through curricular or extra-curricular activities. Finally, it is important to strengthen teacher training programs, which can help teachers assimilate to and incorporate the concepts and characteristics of global citizenship. In addition, more emphasis needs to be put on the provision of resources and guidance for teaching and learning global citizenship across the curriculum, providing a foundation for enhanced teacher competencies. The result suggests that factors having possible impact on teachers’ ideas are various, ranging from knowledge and information about global phenomena thorough the extent of exposure to global citizenship projects as a result of continuous professional development to experience participating in civic and social action tackling global issues.
