불가리아인과 추바시인 출생의례 비교 연구

국문 초록

본 논문에서는 발칸반도의 불가리아인과 볼가 강 유역의 추바시인 출생의례를 출산 전 의례, 출산 의례, 출산 후 의례의 단계 별로 비교해 보았다. 임신부에 대한 기본적인 금기들, 태아의 성별 예측 방법, 임신과 출산을 남에게 알리지 않는 것, 아기가 태어나면 먼저 부모의 낡은 옷으로 감싸는 것, 철 바퀴를 통과시키는 것, 탯줄 및 태반과 관련된 관념과 행위, 아기의 첫 목욕물에 은전을 넣는 것과 소금 사용, 산후 40일간의 격리와 금기, 출생 축하 의례에 반드시 등장하는 빵, 조상들의 이름을 아기에게 다시 사용하는 관습, 우리의 돌잡이와 유사한 관습 등 두 민족 출생의례에서 아주 많은 부분이 유사하다. 이런 유사점이 고대 불가르 문화에 기반을 둔 것이라고 추정해 볼 수 있지만 그런 결론을 내리기에는 아직 더 많은 연구가 필요하다. 불가리아인과 추바시인의 혼례와 장례 등 중요한 의미를 가지는 의례들의 비교 연구, 나아가 바슈키르, 카잔 타타르 등 고대 볼가 불가르인의 후손으로 여겨지는 다른 민족들의 의례들과의 비교연구가 필요하다. 그리고 나아가 발카르인, 카라차이인, 오세트인 등 고대 불가르인과 밀접한 관련이 있는 캅카스 지역 민족들의 의례와 비교해보는 것도 필요하다. 그런 비교 연구를 통해 환흑해 지역 민족들의 문화적 공통성, 달리 말해서 동유럽 지역의 문화적 정체성 파악에 한걸음 더 다가갈 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

In this paper we compared the childbirth rituals of Bulgarian and Chuvash people. Childbirth rituals are divided into prenatal rituals, birth and after birth rituals. There are many similarities such as taboo on pregnant women, gender prediction methods of the fetus, keeping pregnancy and childbirth in secret, the meaning of wrapping a newborn baby in old clothes of parents, passing a newborn baby through the iron wheel, attitude to the umbilical cord and placenta, putting a silver coin in the water for washing a newborn baby, isolation mother and baby for 40 days and taboo on them, the meaning of bread on the birth celebration ceremony, reusing the names of ancestors for newborn baby and so on. It is not enough to conclude that these similarities are based on the culture of Proto-Bulgarians. We must compare the rituals that has important meanings, such as weddings and funerals of Bulgarians and Chuvash, and even of Bashkir, Kazan Tatars, the descendants of the Proto-Bulgarians. And it also needs to compare with Caucasian peoples such as Balkars, Karachays and Ossetians, closely related to the Proto-Bulgarians. If so, we will be able to go one step closer to understanding the cultural commonality of the nations of the Black Sea region, furthermore the cultural identities of the Eastern European region.
