This study aims to explore how multicultural education is done in an elementary school as an exemplary case and to seek out better ways to realize multicultural education in English classes in elementary schools in Korea. In order to do this case study, quantitative and qualitative data, such as textbook analysis, a student survey, and teacher interviews was collected. The major findings of the study are as follows. First, explicit introduction of multicultural factors in English textbooks can be effective when various educational resources are provided in a way to facilitate critical thinking and in-depth understanding to other cultures; so the teacher’s guide needs to elaborate on what needs to be done, how, and why. Second, implicit education of multicultural factors can be possible by integrating or intertwining them in the context, naturally. However, this may only be possible for experienced teachers in some cases. Therefore, combining explicit and implicit education of multicultural factors may be mutually beneficial. Third, integrating English with other subjects and incorporating a variety of strategies in learning multicultural factors could make English a more integral comprehensive part of students’ daily school experience, further enhance and facilitate the development of the four functions of English, and finally achieve the purpose of English education in the national curriculum.
