택시기사의 유니폼 착용에 관한 암묵적 효과:문화적 차이와 점화효과를 중심으로

국문 초록

택시기사의 유니폼은 긍정적일까, 부정적일까? 기존연구는 유니폼이 직업정신을 고취하고, 질서와 규율을 부각시킨다고 하였다. 본 연구는 의존적 문화의 한국에서 유니폼은 다소 복잡한 심리를 유도할 것으로 예상하였다. 즉 유니폼이 주는 다양한 점화효과(priming effect)에 주목하였다. 실험 1에서 의존적 문화관이 강한 승객은 유니폼을 착용한 택시기사의 과속운전을 자유복 택시기사에 비해 더 부정적으로 판단하였다. 유니폼이 질서와 규율준수라는 긍정적 기대를 점화했기 때문이다. 그리고 자유복 기사의 정속운전을 유니폼 기사의 정속운전보다 더 긍정적으로 판단하였다. 자유복이 방종이나 단정치 못함이라는 부정적 기대를 점화했기 때문이다. 한편 독립적 문화관이 강한 승객은 기사의 유니폼 착용여부와 상관없이 과속운전은 부정적으로 평가하고, 정속운전은 긍정적으로 평가하였다. 실험 2에서 택시기사의 불친절이 택시업계 전체에 대한 부정적 판단으로 파급되는지 검토하였다. 그 결과, 의존적 문화관이 강한 승객이 유니폼 착용기사의 불친절 응대를 당한 경우, 자유복 기사의 불친절에 비해 택시업계 전체를 부정적으로 추론하는 파급효과가 더 컸다. 이 결과는 유니폼이 집단이라는 개념을 점화했기 때문으로 여겨진다. 실험 3에서 유니폼을 착용한 택시기사는 자유복 기사에 비해 외국인 노동자 등 외집단 승객에 대한 친절서비스 제공의도가 낮아졌다. 이는 유니 폼이 집단주의와 배타성을 점화했기 때문으로 여겨진다. 그러나 이 효과는 의존적 문화관에 속한 기사에게만 나타났고, 독립적 문화관에 속한 기사 에게는 나타나지 않았다. 결론적으로 본 연구는 유니폼의 역효과를 문화적 차이와 점화효과 관점에서 살펴보았다. 의존적 문화가 지배적인 사회에서 낮은 서비스를 제공 하는 택시기사에게 유니폼을 입히는 것은 승객에게나 기사에게나 위험부담이 크다는 것을 보여주었다.

영문 초록

Are uniforms of taxi drivers positive, or negative? Prior researches said uniforms inspired professionalism, and activated positive regularity. This study predicted, however, uniforms might involve with somewhat complex effects in the interdependent culture like the Korean society. So, priming effect of uniforms was focused on. Experiment 1 appeared the interdependent cultured consumers judged the overspeeding taxi driver with the uniform more negatively than the overspeeding with the free style of dress. The uniform had primed the concept of positive regularity and order. The consumers, however, judged the normal speeding driver with the free style more positively than the normal speeding with the uniform. The free style of driver’s dress had primed the concept of self-indulgence. The independent cultured consumers, by the way, judged the driver independent of his dress style. Exp. 2 examined the spillover effect of unkindness of drivers toward the taxi trade. The interdependent cultured consumers spilled negative judgment over the trade because they had been primed the concept of group through the image of the uniform. Exp. 3 said taxi drivers got relatively low intention of service for the out-group consumers like labors from the developing countries because their uniforms had primed the concept of exclusive attitudes. This effects, however, appeared not to the independent cultured drivers but to the interdependent. Concludingly, this study suggested the dark side of uniforms in respect of cultural difference and priming effect. It may be risky that putting on uniforms under the interdependent culture with low service quality not only for consumers but also for drivers.
