16~17세기 동람도식 목판본 지도책의 조선전도와 도별도에 대한 연구

국문 초록

최초로 독립된 도별지도책으로 엮여진 『동국지도』(1500년대 후반)는 동람도의 내용과 형식을 그대로 계승하면서도 정치ㆍ군사ㆍ사회적으로 중요하다고 여겨진 정보를 선택ㆍ추가하는 방식으로 제작되었다. 그 과정에서 지도 위에 정보를 압축적으로 표기하고 물리적 거리를 시간거리(日程)로 바꾸는 방법이 개발되었으며, 지도와 분리된 도별 지계리수(地界里數)와 지도의 여백에 모든 고을ㆍ찰방역ㆍ진보에 대한 간략한 지지 정보를 수록하였다. 『지도』(1600년대 중반)의 도별도에서는 지도의 여백과 지계리수에 수록되어 있던 많은 지지 정보를 생략하였다. 이 과정에서 『동국지도』에서 지도의 여백과 지계리수에 수록하였던 정보 중 일부를 조선전도와 도별도의 지도 위에 직접 기입하였고, 지도 위에 정보의 종류가 많아져 구별하기 어려워진 문제를 해결하기 위해 새로운 기호를 개발하여 적용하였다. 그 결과 『지도』는 『동국지도』에 비해 지지의 속성이 약화되고 지도의 속성이 강화된 지도책이 되었으며, 그 내용과 형식의 대부분이 이후의 동람도식 계통의 지도책에 거의 그대로 계승되었다.

영문 초록

『Dongguk Jido』(late 16th century) adopted the contents and format of and was added with selective key information on politics, military and social status. In th process, firstly the system was developed to symbolize and mark key point information on the map and the methodology to convert physical distance into time-based distance was invented and applied and secondly, many statistical data was marked on the margin of maps and 「Jigyerisu」, the document developed separately from provincial map. 『Jido』 does not hold the statistical data as seen on the margin of other maps and Jirigyesu. It is because firstly, parts of those statistical data posted on the margin of maps and Jirigyesu in 『Dongguk Jido』 were marked on the map itself and secondly, in the process new signs and symbols were developed to make it easier to read and understand all the complicated information posted on the map. As a result 『Jido』 became a map book with much more improvement in terms of cartology than 『Dongguk Jido』 and most of the contents and format were adopted by other small-sized wooden print maps developed since then.
