서신성(舒新城)의 중국교육 근대화론

국문 초록

이 논문은 서신성(舒新城, 1893-1960)의 중국 교육근대화론을 탐색하고 그것이 우리 교육에 주는 시사점을 도출해내는데 그 목적을 두고 있다. 연구 결과를 정리하여 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 그가 인식한 중국의 교육근대화는 외부의 자극에 의한 단순한 서구식 교육의 형식적 모방에 지나지 않았고 이런 교육패턴은 당시 농경사회인 중국에는 적응되기 어려워 갈등과 모순을 초래했다. 둘째, 그는 1922년 중국 교육근대화의 한 방안으로 달톤플랜(Dalton Plan)을 교실교육 개혁에 접목하려고 했으나 실패한 후 그가 갑자기 교육사학자로 방향을 선회하게 된데는 중국에서 신교육이 이뤄진 결과에 대한 철저한 반성, 실패의 원인 탐색에 진력하기 위함이었다. 셋째, 중국근대교육사 관련 논저의 연구는 교육의 인과관계에 대한 분석과 발전방안 모색에 그 목적을 두고 있었다. 이를 바탕으로 다양한 교육근대화론을 제기한 바 있다. 넷째, 교육근대화를 위하여 교육보급의 실천적인 노력으로 1) 각 지역에 방송매체를 도입할 것, 2) 삼관제(三館制: 도서관, 과학관, 체육관) 등을 조직적으로 잘 활용하여 전임지도원 조교 및 학습지도의 철저를 기할 것을 제시했다. 끝으로 서신성의 중국교육근대화론이 우리에게 주는 시사점을 정리하면 첫째, 우리의 근대교육에 관한 1차 자료의 수집과 정리를 통한 교육사 연구의 심화에 얼마나 노력하는가를 돌아보게 한다. 둘째, 교육사학자의 교육을 보는 눈과 책무성에 대한 반추이다. 셋째, 교육문화의 정체성과 개방성에 대한 성찰 등 이다.

영문 초록

The aim of this study is try to find some implications on Korean education through investigating the modernization of Chinese education posed by Shu Xin Cheng. Results of this study are as follows: First, Modernization of Chinese education at that time recognized by Shu Xin Cheng was a formally simple imitation about the western education by outer stimulus, however such kind of pattern in education brought conflicts with traditional pattern in education because of adjustment difficulties with agricultural society of China at that time. Second, He tried to applied a new way for modernization of Chinese education, which was named Dalton Plan in 1922. However he turn over to as a scholar who studying the history of education. Further more he was going to reflect intensively the results of new education approach, reason of it's failure. Thirds, analysing his works, his final purpose of works was how the causal relation consisted between failure and success of modern Chinese education and also try to find the way to develop the modern education. Actually based upon those, he presented various way for the Chinese modernization of education., so to speak, various kinds way for the popularization of education: applying the broadcasting mechanism in each area, establishment of library, science hall, gymnasium for the guidance of learning. Finally, how his theory of modernization of Chinese education could be implicated upon the Korean education are as follows: Development of historical primary sources about modern education in Korea, Reflecting upon the view point on education and responsibility of scholars who study on the history of education, Reflecting on the critical and openness attitudes toward interchanging the educational cultures with foreign education.
