우리나라 교사들의 수업에 대한 성취목표 탐색

국문 초록

교실은 학생들에게 성취의 장인 동시에 교사에게도 자신의 업무를 성공하기 위한 중요한 터전이다.교사가 자신의 수업에 대한 목표를 설정하고, 이를 달성하기 위해 노력하게 되는 과정에서, 서로 다른 목표를 지향할 수 있다. Butler는 성취목표지향성이론을 토대로 하여 교사가 수업을 하는데 서로 다른 성취목표를 지향할 수 있다는 점을 제안하였다. 교사의 성취목표에 대한 연구는 외국에서 진행되었을 뿐 아직까지 우리나라 교사를 대상으로 한 국내연구는 찾아보기 어려운 실정이다.본 연구는 먼저 Butler가 제안하였던 교수에 대한 성취목표가 우리나라 교사에게도 동일하게 적용가 능한지를 경험적으로 검토하였다. 그 결과 그가 제시하였던 교수에 대한 성취목표가 우리나라 교사들에 게서도 적용가능하지만, 구체적인 결과들에 있어서는 외국과 조금 다른 양상을 보였다. 구체적인 살펴보면 첫째, 우리나라 중고등학교 교사들은 교수에 대해 수행접근목표보다는 숙달목표를 더 지향하는 것 으로 나타났으며 고등학교 교사가 중학교 교사에 비해 수행접근 교수목표를 더 지향하였다. 둘째, 학생의 학습에 대한 성취목표 결과와는 달리, 우리나라 교사들은 교수에 대해 수행회피 목표를 숙달목표만큼 지향하는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 교사의 교수에 대한 성취목표는 교사가 자신의 수업에서 사용하는 교수전략이나 교수효능감을 유의하게 예언하였는데 이상의 결과들이 주는 이론적, 실제적 시사점들을 논의하고 있다.

영문 초록

It was proposed that achievement goal theory can be applied to conceptualize motivation not only for learning but also for teaching. Past goal research has exclusively focused on students’ achievement goals and thus it has been overlooked that teachers may endorse different types of achievement goals for teaching in their striving to be successful in teaching career. Teachers’achievement goals for teaching have been recently recognized as an important aspect of teacher motivation. This study examined Korean teachers’ achievement goals for teaching and its relation to instructional strategy and teacher-efficacy Five hundred and fifty-eight secondary school teachers participated in the study.The responses of 558 secondary teachers to self-report measure of goal orientation for teaching yielded 3 factors reflecting distinct mastery, performance-approach,performance-avoidance goal. This study also examined how secondary school teachers' goal orientations for teaching affect instructional strategy and teacher efficacy. Mastery goal for teaching was a significant predictor of both teachers'mastery approaches to instruction and teacher efficacy, while performance-approach goal for teaching predicted performance-approach approaches to instruction strategy and teacher efficacy.Both teachers goal for teaching significantly predicted teachers' instructional strategy and teacher-efficacy, but the impact of mastery goal for teaching was larger than that of performance goal for teaching. Interestingly, Korean teachers had performance-avoidance goal for teaching as much as mastery goal for teaching, but it did not predicted instruction strategies and teacher efficacy. Lastly, it was found that high school teachers perceived more emphasis on the performance approach in the school than did middle school teachers, and that male teachers showed a higher level of performance-approach goal foe teaching than did female teachers.
