영문 초록

This paper reports on findings about relationships between adult care givers' filial motivation and informal support networks of elderly parents, and relationships between the networks and the parents' life satistfaction. Using questionnaires, 392 elderly persans and their 392 aclult care givers were in terviewed, and the study was based on responses from these two groups. Findings suggest the stronger the motivation of the care giver to provide filial care /services for elderly parent, the greater the support received by the parent from the networks, especially from the family support network. The qualitative dimension of parent care was suggested to be a major factor effecting elderly parent's life satisfaction of various types. Important issues and concerns were described, which would have to be taken into account in the study of informal support networks in the Korean cultural context, i.e., filial piety multi-generational cohabitation, intimacy or closeness, neighborhood support, reciprocal relationship, and similarity or homogeneity of a support network.
